Things that used to weird me out in Korea that no longer faze me:
~Only hand towels in the bathroom
~Food that is routinely so spicy that you cry
~Sleeping on the floor in most vacation accommodations
~Skirts in the wintertime
~Boys carrying their girlfriends' purses
~Kpop
~The shower stall not being separate from the rest of the bathroom
~Sharing food
~Eating cake with chopsticks
~People not saying goodbye when they hang up the phone
~People constantly asking each other if they've eaten yet
~The cheapness of Korean food at restaurants
~Not tipping
~Washing the floor once a week
~Coffee costing the same amount as a full meal
~People pretending you didn't sneeze instead of saying "bless you"
~Eating massive amounts of rice
~The Korean Catholic churches still doing pre-Vatican II veils and chants
~How hard it is to find shoes larger than an 8 1/2
~Instant coffee everywhere
~Pushy ajummas (okay, USUALLY they don't bother me)
~Heterosexual men holding hands
~Hotel rooms with no sheets on the bed
~Chicken fights
~The high level of communication between significant others
~10 PM being rush hour, because that is when all the academies let the kids out
~People telling me how small my face is
Things that still bother me:
~The lack of any personal space whatsoever
~How far away Korea is
~The emphasis placed on appearance and not so much on actual quality/integrity
~Innocuous-looking chips actually tasting like shrimp or bananas
~Tiny dogs
~The extreme speed of weddings and wedding receptions
~Mosquitoes
~How difficult Korean is
~Feeling chubby compared to Korean girls
~The limited variety of grocery foods, especially fruit
~The way shopkeepers won't let me look at clothes by myself
~Conversely, the way service people won't look at me until they find out I speak Korean
~How slowly women walk
~The extremely high percentage of smokers
~The offhand way in which bosses lie and take advantage of their workers
~The drinking culture
~Bones in my soup
Things that I used to think were awesome that no longer impress me:
~The extremely streamlined way movie theaters work
~Technomart
~Places to take pictures at every festival
~Cooking at your table
~Makkoli
~The fact that ReadingTown is an easier job than Matignon
~The comfy chairs at every coffee shop
~Libraries full of studying students all the time
~How involved parents are with their kids' educations
Things that are still awesome:
~David
~Noraebangs
~The public transportation
~Persimmons
~Palaces
~Street food (especially the fish pastries and honey-filled pancakes)
~How kind Korean people can be (especially with their food)
~Mountains
~Sesame leaves
~Green tea
~Thousands of years of history
~The Korean Foundation legend
~Fortress walls
~Korean moms
~How attractive Korean men are
~Vitamin C drinks
~Korean health care
~Festivals
