Okay, so people at Teaching Drum suggested hitting up the family for tuition $ through a letter, and so here's my rough draft...
"Dear Family and Friends,
As you may or may not know, I’m currently working full-time for a franchise home cleaning service in the Seacoast, NH area as an Assistant Team Leader, and have been doing so since late October. I’ve been saving nearly all of each paycheck in the bank, in hopes of taking part in a great learning opportunity I’ve been presented with. I plan on attending the Teaching Drum Outdoor School, located in Northern Wisconsin this coming spring.
For the past ten months, my boyfriend, Marcus, has been living in the woods of Wisconsin at the Teaching Drum Outdoor School, in their Wilderness Guide Program-which is what I also hope to do this year. It’s a year long immersion experience of living in the wilderness. Although various survival skills are taught and used (i.e. Fire-making, plant identification, native shelter building, etc.), the concept behind the program is not just to learn how to survive in the woods, but to build physical and (most importantly) mental health. Communication, confidence, trust and being able to work in a community are all challenges to be faced.
There is a lot to be learned from living in the outdoors, essentially becoming a Native for a year. I can’t even remember not owning a computer, and to have the opportunity to live such a different lifestyle will be an amazing and enriching experience.
With world-wide applicants, and only around 10 students each year, I have been accepted into this upcoming Wilderness Guide Program. This course is not without cost, which is where you have the opportunity to assist me.
I am seeking sponsorships to help with the program’s tuition, which is roughly $6,000. This tuition cost covers food (organic fruit, veggies and meat, much of it from local farmers), lodging and school services for the year. Being a non-profit organization, all donations made to the Teaching Drum Outdoor School are tax deductible. Donations can be made at any level; a one time donation or monthly, and can be made at any time throughout the year- or, if you would prefer, you may send a check or money order directly to me. I hope to share this experience, through letters, with those who support me monetarily or otherwise.
Thanks and much love,
Laura Jayne Wulfson

i was thinking of putting in that an option might be for someone to match what i earn... i feel weird soliciting from family or really anyone...maybe it's something i need to just get over so that i can go and do this.
any thoughts on the letter? suggestions?
