Gotland is the only region in South Sweden where they don't salt the roads in winter. The reasons are ecological concerns (in North Sweden they don't salt roads either but only because it's pointless). In many places they don't even cut the grass alongside the roads as it's customary in Swedish mainland. Which alltogether gives wonderful meadow ( Read more... )

Besides the church in Hedared in western Sweden there is one more medieval stave church preserved, though only partially. It was discovered by a sheer accident: in 1896 during renovation of the medieval Hemse church on Gotland they found remains of a carved pattern on the lower part of the oak floorboards.
