Unconditional Love 10

Jaejoong never thought he would ever experience friendship again - friendship, which he longed for ever since he left his old school. He had met Yunho just 3 months prior to today, and it wasn’t even under a normal setting. He hadn’t wanted them to meet like that. But, although he wanted it to be different, he also knew if that day didn’t happen the way it did, he might not have met Yunho at all.

He looked to his side. Yunho was currently lying on his stomach with headphones on. He was so focussed on reading and listening to music, that he didn’t realize Jaejoong staring at him. Jaejoong cracked a small smile.

They were supposed to study but when they reached the library, Yunho suggested they move to this place instead. He didn’t know why, but Yunho said he preferred to be here rather than there; so he just followed. After all, anything suited him just fine.

Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind. He shook Yunho’s shoulder and waited until Yunho turned his head to give Jaejoong a puzzled glance.

“What?”

Jaejoong tried to use his hands to interact with Yunho. However, when he saw Yunho furrow his brows, a chuckle escaped from a pair of pouty lips. Yunho didn’t seem to understand what he was trying to say, so he grabbed Yunho’s book and wrote on it.

Where is Heechul?

Yunho nodded in understanding as his eyes danced upon each word. “He said he might be a bit late. You know him… hey, wait!” Yunho sat up immediately and looked at Jaejoong closely. Of course, he didn’t know that action gave Jaejoong a kind of cold chill.

“Did he tell you anything about the guy who took him home yesterday?” Yunho asked seriously, his tone betraying his strong desire to know the answer.

Jaejoong tilted his head slightly to the right. A guy? Which guy is Yunho referring to?

As if reading his thoughts, Yunho continued, “The guy… that guy who waited for him yesterday. You know the one with the sunglasses…” When Jaejoong didn’t give any sign of acknowledgement, he continued still, “I asked Heechul, but he didn’t want to tell me… Aish! That kid!”

Jaejoong smiled a little. Yes, he actually does know the guy Yunho’s referring to. Heechul had told him about it a couple of weeks ago. But… should he tell Yunho about it? He shook his head mentally. No! Heechul had told him not to tell Yunho. He wondered why though.

A shake of the head was the only answer Yunho received to his question.

“You don’t know too?”

Jaejoong nodded.

“Aah… It’s okay,” Yunho grinned, “I’ll ask him again later then.”

Jaejoong looked at Yunho who stood as he said those words. Wearing a confused expression on his face, Jaejoong pulled on Yunho’s left hand, wanting to ask Yunho what he was doing. However, before he was able to do so, Yunho beat him to it.

“I’m hungry. I’m going to get us some food,” murmured Yunho embarrassedly as he rubbed his flat, toned stomach.

Jaejoong could see a light shade of pink dusting his friend’s cheeks- a side which he had rarely seen on Yunho. He nodded his head nonetheless, and catching his friend’s reply of ‘I’ll be right back,’ his eyes followed the retreating figure, running towards a destination unknown.

Sometimes he asks himself, whether he should be allowed to receive this kind of treatment when he’s perfectly aware that he was filled to the brim with imperfections? He sighed. He just wanted to let this thought go. But whenever he was hanging around Yunho and his friends, he felt disconnected - like he wasn’t supposed to belong to their group.

When would he be able to calm his worries about all this? He really hated it.

:::…:::

“Do you really want to do that?” Donghae eyed his friend suspiciously. He knew Yunho well, that much was obvious. However, he doesn’t think he knows much about this ‘new’ Yunho, although, he preferred this Yunho rather than that Yunho- the one who always has a bad temper. This Yunho, sure, still created chaos wherever he went, just like Heechul, but he doesn’t create ‘bad’ chaos like his best friend. The kind of chaos that always made Ajoo and him confused and miserable.

Yunho turned his head and gave Donghae a look, little droplets of sweat flying as he did so- the result of having danced non-stop for about 2 hours. That was just so Yunho. He walked towards the desk and grabbed his bottle of water as Donghae switched off the CD player.

“Of course, is there any problem with it?” Yunho asked, drying his face with the towel that Donghae handed to him and murmured a soft ‘thank you’ in response. Sitting down in one of the chairs, Yunho fished out his hand phone.

Donghae shook his head and voiced his opinion, “I don’t see any problem with it, but do you think he will like the idea of being surprised? Because I, myself, don’t really like the idea at all.”

Yunho looked at Donghae, a warm smile gracing his features. He knew what his friend was afraid of. The thing that Donghae feared would happen, will be the last thing he would ever do. No, he won’t let it happen. Making a person, who has slowly begun to hold a special place in his heart, sad was something he will avoid, at all costs.

“I understand why you are worried.”

Donghae flashed him a tiny smile, “I don’t want him to experience anything bad again, especially not after what the others had done to him before. I want to see him happy, like when he was playing on the piano.”

“That is what I want him to be too. And Donghae, believe me, it will be a very special day for him.”

Although it didn’t seem much like a promise, Donghae took it that way anyway. “You better keep to your words Yunho, or else I will hunt you down if you hurt him.”

Yunho let out a contented laugh, “I wouldn’t dare to, especially when he has you as his bodyguard!”

:::…:::

Jaejoong was surfing the Internet when Yunho came over. It was an unexpected surprise, seeing as Yunho didn’t mention anything about his intention to come over to his home yesterday. But when he asked Yunho about it, the guy just winked and said ‘If I had told you, it would not have been a surprise then.’

He watched how close his brother seemed to be with Yunho. Although they had met just under 3 months ago, it looked as if they had known each other for way longer than that. The closeness between them was so prominent, that when they walked outside, people had thought Yunho and Sungsoo were siblings instead of Sungsoo and he. The first time people had said that, he was fine with it. But after the second, third and many times after that, he had pouted.

He was jealous. He couldn’t deny that, and Yunho used to tease him about it all the time. He hated whenever Yunho did that, but he also felt incomplete without Yunho’s constant teasing. It was all just too confusing.

“Hey.”

Yunho’s voice came from right next to his ear and he started a little. He looked to his right and quirked his brows. When did Yunho come to stand beside him? “What are you thinking about?”

Jaejoong tilted his head a little and shrugged his shoulders. Leaving Yunho, he walked into the kitchen where his brother was.

“It’s not nice to just leave me like that, Jaejoong,” Yunho complained, also following Jaejoong into the kitchen. He took a seat as he watched Jaejoong peek at what his brother was doing before he walked over to Yunho and offered him the kimbap Sungsoo made.

He gladly took one and put it into his mouth. He looked at Jaejoong, puzzled, “You don’t want some?”

Jaejoong waved his hands frantically. At the same time, he shook his head, silently telling Yunho that he was afraid to eat kimbap.

‘That’s weird.’ Yunho thought, but “Why?” was the only word which managed to escape from Yunho’s lips.

“He’s afraid it might affect his throat,” explained Sungsoo as he placed another plate of food on the table. He gazed at Yunho, whose face clearly reflected his bewilderment and a smile formed on Sungsoo’s face before he began his explanation.

“Jaejoong ate that once, when he was 12. It was his first time eating kimbap, so he ignored our mother’s advice to watch his limit and just kept on eating. The next minute, he was all red and crying.”

Jaejoong slapped Sungsoo’s arm, face flushed in embarrassment. In return Sungsoo just ruffled his brother’s hair and continued on, “When we rushed him to the hospital, the Doctor told him he was not supposed to have eaten that much. He can eat some but must watch his limit and not eat too much. That’s the story. And up till now, he hasn’t dared touch it again.”

Yunho nodded his head in comprehension and subtly noticed how pink his friend had turned because of the story Sungsoo had just told him. That was definitely a cute sight of Jaejoong. When he first knew Jaejoong, he hadn’t known just how many difficulties Jaejoong had endured because of his throat.

Somehow, a question started to weigh on his mind. ‘What if Jaejoong actually wants to eat it again but he doesn’t want to make his family worry?’

“Jaejoong,” Yunho called and gestured for his friend to come to him. He saw the confused look on Jaejoong as he silently mouthed ‘What?’ Yunho smiled, “Just come here and sit beside me,” ordered Yunho, his tone quite firm.

Jaejoong obeyed at once and sat in the chair right beside Yunho. He shook Yunho’s arm gently when he still didn’t say anything. Instead of answering to Jaejoong’s touch, Yunho busied himself with cutting the kimbap into small pieces. ‘What is he doing?’

Yunho turned to face him and flashed a sparkling, beaming smile. “Open your mouth.”

Jaejoong’s eyes widened. He was really surprised. Why would Yunho want him to open his mouth? Nonsense.

He shook his head, unrelenting.

Yunho sighed, “Just open your mouth. I won’t do anything bad, promise!”

Still, Jaejoong gave him a firm stare and shook his head again. ‘Why should I believe you?’ He thought.

“If you don’t want to do it yourself, I’ll do it for you,” threatened Yunho with a slightly louder tone, “Sungsoo-hyung won’t help you this time, right hyung?”

A soft voice of agreement could be heard behind him. Jaejoong pouted when he heard his brother’s reply. ‘Hyung is so mean.’ Mind still in doubt, Jaejoong opened his mouth, not wide enough but for Yunho, it was okay.

And with movement quick as a flash of light, Yunho placed a small piece of kimbap he had cut, into Jaejoong’s mouth and closed it before Jaejoong was able to comprehend what just happened. “Now, just swallow it.”

Jaejoong shook his head vigorously. He didn’t want to eat that again. Tears started to form in his eyes. However, since he was not facing his brother, Sungsoo couldn’t see the terrified look on his precious Jaejoong.

Yunho smiled apologetically, and proceeded to wipe the tears off Jaejoong’s cheek. “Just eat it, for once. It won’t hurt you. I promise.” He could see how afraid Jaejoong felt, but he had to do this. He held Jaejoong’s head tightly, giving him assurance.

It took Jaejoong forever to chew the tiny piece of kimbap in his mouth. He chewed and chewed and chewed, until there was nothing left for him to chew on. The taste was good, he had to admit and he still has the lingering aftertaste of kimbap left in his mouth.

“How was it?”

He lifted his head, smiled happily, and then gave Yunho two thumbs up signs. ‘It was very delicious.’ He couldn’t remember how good kimbap was until today.

“How was what?” Sungsoo asked, looking from Jaejoong to Yunho curiously.

“Jaejoong just ate some kimbap,” Yunho explained with a smile, “But before you lecture me, I didn’t give him a whole piece of kimbap, just one small portion that I cut out.”

“Really?” Sungsoo beamed and turned his head to face Jaejoong, “So was it good?”

Jaejoong nodded his head again.

“You want to have some more?”

This time, there was no hesitation in his actions. Jaejoong nodded and his eyes shone with a pleading look, ‘Can I?’

“Of course you can, but Yunho, please watch him.”

“Leave it to me,” answered Yunho, “Which kimbap do you want to eat next?” He asked as Jaejoong in a childish manner, picked the kimbap that he wanted.

Sungsoo felt happy, at last Jaejoong was able to fight his fear. But, he knew that if it wasn’t for Yunho, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened at all. He looked at Yunho. Their eyes met for a second, and without Jaejoong overhearing the exchange, Sungsoo murmured, ‘Thank you.’
