This was going to be awkward.
No. It was going to be really awkward.
Lavender still hadn't gone back to work yet - she had barely left George's flat. The quidditch match had been a complete disaster as well. There were too many people, it was too loud. Rather than enjoying the game, Lavender felt herself checking over her shoulder the entire time. There were too many unfamiliar faces. Even she hadn't been so stubborn, she probably would have left at the beginning of the match.
Nobody was exactly sure who had suggested it first. But the idea was out there. One of them nodded. Somebody else agreed. And then it was set in stone. George, Cecilia, Lavender, and Roger were going on a double date.
She spent the afternoon getting ready, trying on one blouse and then decided on a different one. Lavender curled her hair and then she decided to keep it straight. None of her lipsticks seemed right. It was all very frustrating and she wasn't sure what she was more nervous about - going out in public again or spending the evening with Cecilia Jacobs. Or, possible, having George and Roger in the same room together for the first time in years. Really, it was a toss up.
Finally, she sighed - settling on a black blouse and her nice red blazer. It was comfortable but appropriate for a night out - definitely nicer than her casual cardigan collection. Grabbing her bag, Lavender headed into the living room. George should be just about ready and the other two would be arriving any minute. Then the fun would start...
"George, are you ready yet?" she called, fluffing a few pillows to make the living room look a little neater.
