Title: Tribulation (2/?)
Author: laughsunshine
Rating: PG for now. Perhaps NC-17 later on.
Disclaimer: I own nothing! I am just borrowing them.
Summary: An ongoing story about our favorite couple and a journey with their daughters. Can't share too much or I'll ruin it. ;)
FYI: Sofia is 7 and Becca (my made up daughter) is 5.

A/N: I posted part 1 directly on the callie_arizona community but I'll be posting the rest of the parts under fake cuts to my journal. It's easier that way. Also, THIS is what I picture Sofia would look like. And THIS is what I picture Becca would look like.

[ Part 1]

Thoughts were racing through Arizona's mind like lightning. The doctor side of her brain couldn't slow down and it was clashing with the mother side of her brain. Years and years of diagnosing thousands of disorders and diseases was taking its toll on her in this very moment. Arizona knew she was jumping the gun on this one. It could be anything. She needed to take a deep breath. Sofia probably just fell on the playground at school. That was probably it.

"Mommy, what is it?" asked a sobbing Sofia. "Why am I turning purple?"

"It's just a big bruise Sofia. It means there was bleeding underneath your skin. Did you fall at school today?" asked Arizona.

"Not really. I bumped into my teacher's desk but it didn't hurt at all," said Sophia, a little snot running down her lip.

Arizona grabbed some tissue and wiped Sofia's nose. "Honey, uhm, I'm going to take you to the hospital to do some tests to see what exactly you have, okay? Put on your shirt."

"Can you help?" said Sofia. "My elbows hurt."

"Sure baby," said Arizona, gently putting Sofia's shirt on. "Is there anything else I should know before we go to the hospital?"

"I don't think so. I'm been getting kind of sweaty at night, but that's 'cause I'm having bad dreams," said Sophia. "And my gums kind of hurt too."

"Okay well we're gonna sneak into the hospital and run some tests okay?" said Arizona, pacing around the room and packing a small bag.

"Don't forget Mrs. Barley," said Sofia, pointing to an overstuffed lamb that Bailey had given her on her third birthday.

---

Arizona carried Sofia in her arms up to the peds floor. She didn't want to grab the attention of her co-workers, especially Callie. She knew how her wife got worked up over every little injury the girls received, so she didn't want to worry her. She gently placed her daughter in one of the beds and told the nurses the situation.

"I hope everything is okay, let me know if you need me to go retrieve test results. It's a slow night," said Michelle, the charge nurse for the peds floor.

"Thank you," said Arizona, grabbing a few test kits and heading towards Sofia's room.

"Hey baby. I've got a couple swabs for your mouth and a couple needles that are going to have to be put in your arm so we can find out what's wrong," said Arizona.

"Robbins, what's going on?" said Dr. Kepner. "Hello Sofia, how are you feeling?"

"Very tired," said Sofia.

"I'll be right back Sofia," said Arizona, taking Kepner and dragging her outside. "Look, something is wrong with Sofia and I just want to run a few tests. It might not be anything, but it could be. Please don't tell Stark. I don't want to check her in and risk Callie seeing and worrying and everything..." said Arizona, fidgeting with the ring on her finger, a habit she acquired as soon as she put it on seven years ago.

"Alright, go ahead," said Kepner. "If you need me, just ask."

Arizona watched Kepner leave. She proceeded to swab Sofia's mouth and draw blood. Sofia was definitely the quiet, brave child of the family. Needles, blood, and gore didn't seem to phase her. Becca, on the other hand, went crazy when she stepped inside of any doctor's office when she knew she needed shots. She took the blood and swab to the lab and put it on rush. Just as she was heading back up to sit with Sophia, her phone rang. It was Callie.

"Why is Becca at Mark's?" asked Callie, her voice a little louder than usual.

"Uhh, I thought it might be good for Becca to stay away from Sofia if she's contagious," said Arizona, trying to play it cool.

"Arizona Elizabeth Robbins. Do not lie to me," said Callie, a hint of sadness in her voice. "I know you're in the hospital with Sofia."

"I am so sorry Calliope. I brought her in for some simple tests, that's all," said Arizona.

"How long until you get results?" asked Callie, her voice echoing.

"Two hours. You sound close," said Arizona, peeking around the stairwell.

Callie climbed up the staircase and stood in front of her wife. "I am. Why did you lie?"

"I didn't want to worry you," murmured Arizona.

"I'm going to worry regardless. I have a surgery in ten minutes. I want to see Sofia, where is she?" asked Callie.

"In the blue room, sleeping," said Arizona, however, Callie was already sprinting towards the blue room.

Callie entered the room and walked over to her sleeping daughter. She brushed her fingers through Sofia's hair and whispered her love. She quickly joined Arizona outside of the room. "Let me know what you find. Immediately. I do not care if I'm in surgery. Scrub in and come tell me. This is our daughter and I don't need to be out of the loop. I can't believe Mark had to tell me what was going on. We are raising two daughters Arizona. It isn't going to be an easy job, but we have to have open communication. I know I'm guilty of lying every now and then, but that ends now. No more lies." And with that Callie stormed off to her surgery.

Arizona climbed into bed with Sofia and kissed the top of her head. She was going to rest her eyes for am minute, but a minute turned into three hours. The gentle shaking from Michelle woke her up. "Dr. Robbins, the results are in." Michelle smiled and left the room.

Arizona clumsily got off her daughter's bed and ripped open the envelope. "Swab was normal. Not strep. Not the flu. CBC is off though. White blood count is too high. Red blood count is too low." No. Not Sofia. No, thought Arizona. She rushed to the nurses' station and asked Michelle to watch Sofia while she tried to track down Kepner.

Arizona opened the doctor's lounge, but Kepner wasn't there. In fact, she couldn't seem to find anyone anywhere. She whipped out her phone and called the person who seemed most likely to answer and who would most likely know the answer.
