It must be that time of the month -- I have pretty much not eaten anything but enormous bowls of white rice with nori goma (aka SALT sprinkles) and umeboshi (aka SALT death-pickle)  for the last 3 meals. Well, not exactly fruit....

I harvested just barely enough green beans from my garden yesterday to eat with dinner! I sat there munching and thinking, "I grew these!" which really is sort of amazing because they were nearly dead a month and a half ago. I also made pesto with basil and oregano from the garden. Yay!

So I managed to dig up about 1/3 of the area I am planting a flower bed in yesterday to a depth of about 6-7 inches, but I hadn't backfilled the whole area before I quit for the day yesterday. Oh, it smells like spring! We've had two warm days in a row (ha -- warm, being over 60) and I want to lay around in the sun all day and start my garden and dance a jig. It's not spring, though, not by a long shot. I will still have a month or two at least of scraping ice off my car every morning and wearing gloves to drive 3 minutes to the train. ( Read more... )
