On Challenges and Bunnies
Or, how I'm failing spectacularly at onedeadbunny.
I have a pretty massive list of general plotbunnies that have been waiting for me to have time for them. Since I signed up for het_challenge in fall of last year, though, I've pretty much been in one solid round of challenges.
I did NaNoWriMo last November, and finished up my het_challenge piece in December. I also did yuletide last December. January was a quiet month, but February started the claims again, and then I did a massive amount of writing last April, which has basically continued unabated until now. I've written fourteen fics for challenges (I don't even care to think about the word count) and have done very little on my own stuff. Also, I looked at the Master Fic List and decided it's too huge and unwieldy; I can barely find the items I want. Obviously this means that more sorting is required, and I will be getting on that.
But also it means that the bunnies are growing faster than I am writing them, and it has been a very long time since I wrote something that wasn't for a challenge or a claim. So, hence deciding to give up challenges until at least February, barring the ones I've already signed up for. Except yuletide because, well, Yuletide! Mythfic! Squee.
I am not planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year, mostly because my wrists won't be up to the challenge. However, I do plan to write at least 25,000 words in November on things I want to work on. It'll be shiny.
I'm also going to trim down the bunny-list to "things I actively plan to work on in the next couple of months," so with that in mind, here's a revised list. Claim communities, i.e. the things shanaqui tempted me into with shinybits, aren't listed but will be worked on.
Final Fantasy IV
Every Light Casts A Shadow - Ideally, I would like to get another 10,000 words into this. I really like what I have, although I think I seem unbearably wordy at times (but celeloriel hasn't ordered me to cut any of it as of yet, which is good!) Kain/Angst OTP. [chaptered, presently at 50,000 words. Looks likely to top 200,000 pre-edit.]
Final Fantasy X
"Sea Breezes" (Lulu/Chappu) - I'd like to finish Chapter Two, finally. If I'm ambitious, mayhaps Chapter Three. [chaptered]
"A Summoner's Faith" (Yuna) - Really, I'd like to just knock this one out and be done with it. [chaptered]
Final Fantasy XII
(Untitled) (Balthier, Al-Cid) - Balthier and Al-Cid go clubbing. This is completely yi_sen's fault. [oneshot]
(Untitled) (Vossler/Ashe) (AU) - What if Ashe did not escape the palace and was instead made a puppet queen? [chaptered]
(Untitled) (Gabranth, Ashe, Drace in various combinations) (AU) - See above, but with some decidedly different angles. [chaptered]
(Untitled) (Balthier/Ashe) - Purely reactionary, because I'm sick of people writing Ashe as submissive. Ashe as the aggressor! [oneshot]
Also: I fail, epically, at titles.
I'm going to try and knock out at least one of my five claims tonight, as I had tea and am therefore muchly awake. I'd really like to finish all my non-Yuletide challenge claims before October 1, although I doubt that will happen. But I can try.
