I applaud people who's imagination is fertile enough to post 100+ stories, I really do. Add to the fact that they can write for several simultaneously and still keep a steady update schedule, well, they're my heroes. But when someone starts sacrificing quality for quantity, well, that's when I get annoyed.
I was browsing through an archive the other day and noticed one of the authors I used to read diligently had posted a host of new stories, and was alarmed that they had uploaded five in one day. Their profile also indicated this was a normal occurrence, and the stories themselves, while decent, just didn't have the same impact that they used to have on me. I was rather disappointed because they used to write wonderful stories, but once they started writing for more than one at a time, they couldn't handle it and sacrificed the fic quality in an effort for more. I was really tempted to send them a message advising them to just cut back, but it seemed rude so I refrained.
I will admit to making the mistake of uploading several chapters in a day with very little thought of editing when I first started writing, and its a mistake that I still cringe about to this day, but someone who has been writing for as long as they have should *know* that is a stupid mistake. They even whined in an authors note that they don't have enough time to edit. I was even more tempted to send that message right then and there.
Why, oh why do people sacrifice the quality so much these days? I haven't found a good story on FF.net- in any fandom of mine- for a while now.
