Caves and coast

We keep going back to the Ligurian coast whenever we're in Italy, it's all so pretty. This time we started off by going to Menton (just over the border in France) so we could walk back from the station, across into Italy, to go to the Balzzi Rossi caves.

Prehistoric human graves and artefacts have been found in the caves since the 1700s, but the railway from Nice to Genoa was built through them, and various military installations, so it's only recently that there's been a small museum there, explaining the early history of the area.

You can walk up to the caves - they unlock sections for you as you go, as there's still work ongoing that you mustn't disturb.

We then got the train on to Ventimiglia, to sit by the sea for a bit (it was lovely out, like April in the UK), before going back inland to ski for the last couple of days we were away.

Beautiful evening

That's it for Italy photos, apart from one last daft one: there was something very 'Twilight Zone' about the corridors in the apartment block where we were staying.
