Hello, ladies,
today I’m going to pimp some fics, and namely - khr_undercover participants.
For me personally, khr_undercover - a great opportunity to write and read something beyond your usual range of interests. Heck, I have written (yes, hai thar, random self-pimping) angsty
Shouichi-centric gen for it in previous round! Granted, it had all Vongola famiglia packed into it, and even 8059 hints, but still.
And when it comes for reading, the stock always has some gems that are unforgivable to miss.
I would love to tell you about some previous round entries, like “Mother in the wilderness” or “A beast called you”, but I stick to an point of view that if you provide fanfic recs, you must add at least a couple of lines to outline your personal opinion, and I’m too lazy to reread all of them right now.
So, let me recommend you some entries from the third round then.
Dive by [astronaut]
8059, first of all.
7,600 words, for the second.
A great story with intriguing plot twists, some good-written mindfuckery, and delicately, wonderfully described progress in Hayato and Takeshi’s interactions. You can see it before your eyes, I swear.
Strictly recommended for all 8059 fans.
Sparrow: Old World Passeridae by [gigolo]
Amazingly well-written fairy tale/heroic ballad, that interprets the canon plot according to the Middle Age set up. Sort of gen, but plays with subtext in usual Reborn way. I have to specially mention the author’s spectacular writing style.
First Day Stomach Jitters by [gardener]
A delicious, delicious crack. You can’t unsee! Imagine Squalo as a Vongola news station anchorman, Hibari as a tightass zookeeper, Dino a sexy field reporter and Tsuna as a freaked-out intern, and understand that you can’t let it slip past you.
I promise ten minutes of great laugh.
Paper Scars by [musician]
A wonderfully creepy AU of what could happen after TYL arc. Beware the good ones, indeed.

18+k words about 8059. It has some great parts, most of all in the beginning, but. It also has Hayato the Vampire in leather pants I KID YOU NOT ,and it’s played straight, not for the lulz D:
You know, actually I have to say more than two words about the fic, so, not to spoil you if you don’t want to, I’ve put it under the cut.
I have to admit, that my opinion about this story is rather biased, since I think that vampires are lame. The topic is so overrated and idiotic and cheesy and cliché, it’s not even funny. The last ones that had something on the question that didn’t make me want to puke were Brad Pitt and Christian Slater in “The Vampire Interview”, and even that was barely passable. I’m not into that gothic stuff, and don’t find the idea of sucking blood arousing, not even a little bit. It’s just too pompous. Why so serious, gaiz? And, btw, Twilight doesn’t help the matters any.
And the story is about vampires and feys. If there’s one part of mythology that I hate as much as vampires, it’s Gaelic and Tolkien-like crap. I’m sorry if I’ve hurt someone’s feelings, but I always have thought about it as too much serious business where it’s not needed, over-angsty and lame as well.
Therefore, my opinion about story was affected before I even started reading.
The plot itself is good, with a lot of sideways and levels, and author gradually reveals to us layer after layer, in a very professional way. Although the fic’s own mythology is unreasonably rather complicated, and it’s slightly annoying to constantly check Gaelic names to make sure you don’t confuse one person with another, I liked it. But once again, vampires and feys stuff have killed half of the thrill, since I refuse to take it for serious. For example, I’m sure that I’ve have found the idea of Hayato, the ultra-sexy vampire in leather pants (no he wasn’t sparkling, Yamamoto was, though) , about 827 times more cracktastic than the author had intended.
The beginning portrays Takeshi and Hayato’s meeting and following interactions as a genuine affection, in amazingly believable way, and constantly freaking our Gokudera is just hilarious. However, at some point the story suddenly turns into a mushy Lurve-of-my-life direction, and it kills all chances to believe into that, to feel the chemistry. Instantly. At least, it does for me. The story jumps from hot to cheesy in two phrases, and voila.
All in all, I can’t say I didn’t like the fic at all. I have left the author the detailed review, and hope that she will answer. But there is too much stuff I didn’t like or approve off, so I can’t form a firm opinion. Was all of it meant to be absolutely serious? Well, maybe I’m just to cynical for it then.
If everyone wants to discuss it, I will gladly listen to your thoughts on the object.
And the last one.
Today I have randomly come up with a question that required asking it aloud. So here,
five minutes of my babbling and very, very bad English, because I started to talk out of the blue.
That’s all for today,
have a nice reading time,
Lamp.
