SJ and I wanted to do something with our huge zucchinis. And the leftover d'Anjou pears. So yesterday we had an amazing culinary adventure...
Dish one, the appetizer, was zucchini rounds that didn't fit in the quiche, baked with Tillamook aged cheddar (the oldest you can buy). Amazing. Broiling would have been better, but it was in at the same time as the quiche, so...
Dish two, the main course, was a homemade quiche. The crust is a simple white/whole wheat pasty recipe I have from R's mother. The rest was sliced zucchini, Walla Walla sweet onions from the farmer's market, farmer's market purple garlic, grated Gruyere cheese, and cage-free eggs and heavy cream. It was amazing; I love quiche, and the zucchini really fits very well in a quiche. We were going to add our one ripe Marmande tomato, but there wasn't space.
Dish three, the dessert, was a chocolate-pear foam extravaganza - one of those "whisk egg yolks with sugar, add melted chocolate-butter mixture, fold in egg whites, fold in sliced pears, bake" things. It's slightly jiggly, very foamy meringue-y, full of dark chocolate and pears. I am in love.
Note to self: do more cooking. It is nice, the products are tasty, etc. And it's a real delight when we don't buy much at the farmer's market because our garden produces all the veggies we could ever need...
