News apparently travels fast in the 3rd world, because I just learned of Vonnegut's passing from a
tribute Madeleine wrote in her journal. She credited me with introducing her to Vonnegut, after I raved about hearing him speak my sophomore year at Syracuse. I wrote an 11th grade term paper on God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. I spoke in Cat's Cradle vocabulary to describe the world of karasses, granfallons, wampeters, and foma. I used to dream up strange plot lines for fictional writer Kilgore Trout to take on (I've never wanted to write fiction myself).
I have never seen a news event appear so many places in my friends' list, and with so many thoughtful and heartfelt reflections. I will always remember where I was when I learned of Kurt Vonnegut's passing.
Thank you, all of you, for being you.
