Guess what movie Hubby had absolutely never seen & agreed to watch with me last night?

The Blues Brothers
We watched half last night & will finish it tonight. (I never realized how long it is before! or how much language is in it!)
This is one of the many movies my side of the family considers to be a classic - something you can't dislike & be part of the family, you know? It's a movie I associate with family nights & my dad laughing so hard he'd shake his arm chair while I'd sit on the floor with my back against the couch. My parents were both in the brass section of band in high school & loud jazz is something I associate with happy Saturday mornings & my dad cleaning the garage with it blasting from his ancient boombox.
Hubby does not tend to understand my family's humor. Or our love for movies filmed more than a decade ago. Sunday we ate out & I shared a piece of his toast & reminisced that dry toast always reminds me of the scene in the "soul food cafe" right before Aretha Franklin's character bursts into song, "Without your dry white toast! Without your 4 fried chickens! And without Mad "Guitar" Murphy!" That's when I learned Hubby had no idea what I was talking about. Since he doesn't tend to care for older films, I was surprised when he agreed to watch it.
What's even more surprising is - he's enjoying it. At first he was like - this is too rediculous! But he actually laughed out loud when the nun was slapping them & broke her ruler. And he's fascinated with why "Princess Lea" keeps trying to kill them & is amused that they never bat an eye after each attempt while they pick themselves out of the rubble. And as they slowly build up a train of enemies chasing after them, he's very curious how things will go.
Next on my list for unsuspecting husband is another "My family classic" - one that is even more rediculous - "Mom & Dad Save the Planet." It's a very weird movie but definitely has its moments. Like the "light" grenade that says "pick me up" and all the idiot soldiers know when they do they’ll disappear but they pick it up anyway because it says to!
