Glee 3.07

So… really? Santana is going to be suspended, but all the other violence… no? Ass.

This episode was stupidly song heavy. I'm annoyed that I had to sit through Beiste's boring straight drama played by two lesbians fighting for the same man, and Puck singing a song by a lesbian singer to make it a straight song for Shuck, when there was election stuff to deal with and other stories to be fleshed out. Like, I'm glad that Santana got to have a scene with her grandmother, and I get that her grandmother's judgement is what she fears the most. She's probably closer to her than her parents. This is important.

But why does Santana never, at any point, connect with the two gay boys who are reaching out to her? One of whom she has tortured for three years because she is POPULAR and POWERFUL and PASSES when she's not making out with her girlfriend? I get that she was going to reject whatever song came first. I get that. But shouldn't they at least try to have her connect with Kurt? It would be awesome.

Similarly, I'm glad to see Santana's friends rally around her, but it would be nice to have some acknowledgement of how they FAILED to do this for Kurt, until he was on the brink of a breakdown. I mean, the girls in the hallway sticking up for Santana was powerful. Could we get Santana in the future doing this for other members of the club, or is she going to continue to just be as mean as she can be?

Also, I hate how Glee uses Jamey's death here. He didn't die for your plot, okay? Connect it properly, and do it seriously, without trashing the fuck out of anyone who is gay acting, okay? How about you have Santana talk to Kurt about how she's sorry for making his life hell because she doesn't want HIM to kill himself? I mean, that's like hint #2 this season about gay suicides. Are we going to address this properly or is it just for more 'social justice' points?

People are griping about Naya's acting… I think it was actually pretty good in this episode. I didn't think she was flat in the last one, but the scene where she finds out about her outing was too fast. We needed some of that slo-mo they're in love with this season. I thought she did a good job, and I thought that of course, Chris was flawless.

Good to see supportive!Blaine in this ep. Also, I was a little annoyed to find out that Klaine were singing this to HER and they cut SO MUCH of the song, but the song was great, and they were adorable, and it MEANT SO MUCH, and also

THEY SING IT TO EACH OTHER IN THE CAR!!! That is like, so sweet. I could die.

The election: Sigh. Of course, Kurt loses. He says it outright this ep. He loses EVERYTHING. I like to think in that final scene, Blaine is counseling him on what he could put on his application, from working in his dad's garage, to being a National champion cheerleader one year, both glee clubs, and working on his dad's campaign. It's not a ton, but it's a start.

It's nice that they showed that Rachel is still mostly selfish in her actions trying to get Kurt to win (in character, and acknowledging it makes her more bearable), and that Kurt is human enough to consider cheating, but feels so guilty about even thinking about it that he babbles it out in front of the principal.

Where the hell is Carole? Zombies got her. :/

Um… other thoughts… "I Kissed a Girl" is still fucking offensive. Thanks for that, Glee. I mean, they sang it better than Katy Perry, but it's still fucking offensive. "That's not what good girls do"? "I just wanna try you on"? Fuck you.

"Constant Craving"- It's on my playlist for the nonmpreg Klaine zombie fic.

Puck/Shelby- Please make it stop.

Quinn- I knew she was going to try to get herself another baby.

ETA: I'm not thrilled that Burt won. They need to sell me on this idea, really. Are they going to move? This plotline is untenable to me. It was barely on screen. HOW did he win?

Also, if they did an election, it's the beginning of November in Glee land, and NYADA has the earliest application deadline ever. Early ones tend to be Dec 1st, so is this just the first application, and they apply for other ones throughout the rest of the month? It's still hard to believe that Kurt and Rachel haven't researched schools.

Dear writers,

Actually, you don't have to shove every plotline into every episode. You can establish continuity in other ways! Yay!

Ugh. Done. Going to bed, I think. I have so, so much work to do tomorrow.

If you aren't playing "Perfect" on repeat, then I judge you. I am so excited that Kurt got to take lead on this song.
