Not so much luck on the idea of rooming with sis - she loves the sound of the really nice complex I was looking at, but is uncertain on whether she could "afford" it. (Which frankly strikes me as odd - yes, it would be a lot of her current pay, but right now all of her current pay is going towards paying the bills at where she lives now. *shrugs*)
I'm mulling right now between
Complex #1 and #2. Both look to be very clean, well-maintained, safe complexes, and according to the tenant review/rating site I looked at, are two of the highest-rated complexes in the city. The big thing working against #1 right now is that they don't have a unit available in the size I'd really want, a 700 sq. ft. D'oh! :P They do have an 800 sq. ft. coming available, but there's only $45/month rent difference between that and a 700 sq. ft. one at Complex #2.
The extra square footage might be nice, but for the price I think I'd rather have the amenities of #2. (One other thing I realized #2 has is storm shelters - which after the multiple tornado close calls I had last year, is a definite selling point for me!) The one big thing #1 has that #2 doesn't is a washer/dryer already in the apartment - but if I had to I could probably find a decent one on sale somewhere - otherwise, amenity-wise #2 wins hands-down. If #1 had a 700 sq. ft. available, I'd probably go for it, though, even if I'm still meh on the parking there.
Complex #1 does have a 550 sq. foot with washer/dryer and dining area available - but that's barely bigger than what I have now, and I don't know if the price difference is worth it.
So right now, I'm leaning more towards applying at #2 - but if that one falls through for some reason, then I'll try and grab one at #1. I don't think I'd be unhappy at either one, and both are definite steps above the property I live in now.
My first class of the semester starts in a couple of hours. Eee! So excited. :)
Also, went to the store last night and did not buy ONE TV dinner or canned/boxed meal. I'm actually going to try and fix my own food for a change. Go me! ;)
