God, that was one seriously awful semester and end of a semester--the worse yet. First semester, I said "To Hell with it all!" and meant it. I really stopped caring, was exhausted, and hated all my classes by the end of the semester. The worst I can do though is make straight Bs.
I got a B in Chaucer--kinda disappointed because I got an A on everything else. The final paper was supposed to be 30%, and I thought all my other stuff that I got As on would balance it out. Guess I did pretty bad on it. Oh well. Don't know about anything else. It was awkward having to talk to Dr. Henke about my paper when I just threw it all together a few hours before I had to turn it in. It wasn't half bad, though I failed to do any research and engage in any criticism; I made a good argument with lots of quotes to support it. Dr. Henke is a really nice person even though she's on the far end of eccentric college professor--she has purple hair! I better get an A on my final paper for Dr. Ryan because I worked my butt off for it; the only paper I really put forth effort in simply because I had to in order to write it--15 pages exactly! Things got a little messed up with my Crusades final--I apparently only sent the version that half of my exam. Thankfully, Dr. Beattie emailed me, and I found where I saved the complete final and sent it to her. Gonna cross my fingers and hope I do well on everything else.
Next semester will be better. No moving, hopefully less family drama, classes with not necessarily less work--but less grueling work. Kopelson allowed me to overenroll in 692 Queer Theory! I think the whole waitlist had to have been admitted because there's no way she could bend for just me. Kinda bummed I have to drop Scenes of Reading, but I'd rather sacrifice that then have to take 691. I'm sick to death what is basically Theory 101 all over again. So all professors I like next semester: Rabin, Beattie, Mattingly, and Kopelson.
Finally done moving into the new apartment! We're about 85-90% unpacked. It's a little wierd and disorienting at times to see all my furniture from the Paducah house here. Nevertheless, it looks very grown-up with all the nice furniture yet it has a whole lot of personality. There are books on almost every surface--LOL. Will take pictures and post when everything is unpacked. Lily is adjusting well. She likes the new couches and sleeps on top of them; she grips the surface making her look like a spider kitty; it's so funny! We have so much storage space everywhere but the kitchen. Kitchen is far too tiny, but we make do. It has a dishwasher which is highly important! Three closets in the bedroom! Two with shelves and one with two small shelves and three racks. Big bathroom, tiny bathtub/shower, but that's not a problem.
Old computer, I've decided is crapping out way too often. It's five years old and lasted me a good while. It's time for an upgrade though. I went to the Apple Store today to talk with them about getting a Mac. I absolutely hate Vista; it's like trying to be a cheap imitation of the Mac. The Mac software IWorks is pretty much the equivalent of Microsoft Office and fully compatible and much more user friendly. Plus Mac is an eco-friendly company; they'll recycle my old computer and printer; all the computers are made of recycled materials. I get $50 student discount on a computer and $100 rebate on a new printer if I want one. So yeah, pretty much sold on a Mac. When my CD1 account matures in May, I'm going to use the money to buy a new laptop.
Going to the bank to get a credit card tomorrow. Need to take my next big step in being a grown up and getting a credit card. So far, got my own place, taken out a loan, and now going to get a credit card.
