so when i said this wasn't going to be a series, I COMPLETELY LIED. i'm still trying to work out the kinks in terms of the way i format these stories, so don't be surprised if the various posts change a little as i figure all that out. i've also gone back and altered a few minor details to make everything flow better. besides that, though, everything is the same: i've got quite a bit of this arc written and have a general idea of where i'm going with it, but unfortunately i can't guarantee any sort of regular posting schedule.
on an unrelated note, i'm looking for a beta! if you're interested in helping me out at all, let me know in the comments - i'd really appreciate it and would be happy to repay you in a fic or two :)

universe masterpost Seohyun indulges in a scaldingly hot shower when she gets home, fifteen minutes instead of her usual ten. Something about the bar had gotten under her skin.
-No, not the bar. Sunny. Five hundred isn’t that old for a vampire, Seohyun supposes, but Sunny seemed like she’d never been alive. She’d been congenial enough, but there was something cold and dead in her eyes. Seohyun shivers just thinking of it.
She wraps her bathrobe around herself once she’s out of the shower and types up a quick summary of her notes to email to her editor. She adds Taeyeon’s address to the Bcc field before she clicks send.
As soon as she walks into the newspaper’s offices the next morning, Sooyoung grabs her arm and steers her into an empty interview room. “So?” she asks, eyes bright and curious. “What happened?”
“You know that’s still classified.”
Sooyoung pouts. “Promise I won’t tell anyone.”
Seohyun shakes her head. “Sorry.”
Sooyoung puts a hand to her chest and heaves a dramatic sigh. “I’m wounded that you don’t trust me. You hear me, Seo Joohyun? I am wounded.”
Seohyun pats her arm. “You’ll get over it.” Her phone beeps before Sooyoung can reply, and she takes it from her purse and flips it open. “Hello?”
“Seohyun,” Taeyeon says. Her voice is strangely serious. “Have you gone into work yet?”
“I’m physically here,” Seohyun says, ignoring Sooyoung’s fingers jabbing at her side, “but I haven’t checked in yet.”
“Good. You’re feeling sick today.” There’s a rustling noise on the other end of the phone, the kind that usually accompanies Taeyeon pushing her hair back behind her ear. “Come in as soon as you can.”
“Okay. I’m leaving now.” She hangs up and tucks her phone back in her purse.
What’d she say?” Sooyoung demands.
Seohyun shrugs. “Just that I need to go in.” She unhooks her car keys from the loop of fabric sewn to the inside of her purse. “I’ll see you later tonight?”
Sooyoung nods and pulls her into a quick hug. “Be safe.”
It takes Seohyun precisely seven minutes to get downtown and pull into the parking lot of the gray, nondescript sort of building on one of the city’s smaller side streets. She flashes her card at the sensor and it beeps her into the lobby, where she takes an elevator to the fourth floor. When the door opens, she’s facing a wall with only a small black lens a little below her eye level. She leans down and lets it scan her, and after a moment, there’s another beep and the wall slides away to reveal a receptionist sitting at her desk in front of another door. “Taeyeon?” Hwayoung asks, and Seohyun nods. “I’ll let her know you’re here,” she says, and buzzes Seohyun in. Seohyun nods in thanks when the door’s lock clicks open, then pushes past it and into a long, white hallway. Seohyun likes the sterile feeling of this building much better than the clutter that filled the last one. The mess had bothered Yuri, too-Seohyun cuts herself off there. No use thinking about the past.
She stops at the end of the hallway and knocks on the door to her right. “Come in!” Taeyeon calls. She smiles at Seohyun when she enters and gestures to the seat in front of her desk. “How are you doing?”
“I’m good.” Seohyun takes her recorder out of her bag and hands it to Taeyeon. “How are you?”
“Good, good.” Taeyeon connects the device to her computer and starts downloading the newest file. “Everything went okay last night?”
Seohyun nods. “She was very...pleasant.”
“Pleasant?” Taeyeon repeats, one eyebrow arched skeptically. “You did interview Sunny, right?”
“Of course I did.” Seohyun adjusts the drape of her blouse. “I don’t know, she seemed really normal. Except for the glass of blood, I mean.” She bites her lip, remembering the way Sunny’s eyes had flashed in the light. “I only had one problem.”
“What was it?”
“Sunny, she-I asked about her line, and she said that only vampire hunters do that.”
Taeyeon frowns. “What did you say?”
“That I was a reporter.” Seohyun shrugs. “She let it go pretty fast.”
“Hm.” Taeyeon pushes her hair behind her ear, glancing at her computer when it dings. “Have you heard from her since?”
“It’s only been a few hours,” Seohyun points out. “She’s probably sleeping right now.”
“Well, let me know if you do.” Taeyeon unplugs the recorder and gives it back to Seohyun. “And don’t let your guard down around her,” she warns. “There’s a reason Sunny’s got the reputation that she does, no matter how pleasant she seems.”
“Of course.” Seohyun stands up to leave, but hesitates. “Taeyeon?”
“Hm?”
“Do you think that she would-that she’d know anything? About Yuri, I mean.”
Taeyeon sighs and looks up at her. “Yes, Seohyun, I imagine she would. Especially with Victoria as her sire.” Her eyes are serious when they meet Seohyun’s. “But if you do end up meeting her again, do not ask her about it. It would sound like you have ulterior motives.”
“Well, I do,” Seohyun reminds her.
Taeyeon laughs. “And the point is to not let her know that.” She makes a little shooing motion with her hand, although her smile is fond. “Now go on, you need to get that to Kyuhyun before you leave.”
Seohyun pulls her phone out of her bag when the door closes behind her, but there are no new messages from Sunny or anyone else. She tells herself it’s nervousness, not disappointment, that makes her heart sink.
