Even with all the crazy, confusing things that have happened to us here, it's just so amazingly beautiful that I'm all about moving to Thailand. Do you think I can find a job here??
I must admit that having the time to lie around on the beach has been most welcome, and I'm pretty sure that I would like to get my Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate when I get home. I don't know what I'll do with it yet, but I think that I'd like to travel around some more, and for the most part, I enjoy teaching...so why not? Lilia and I have been joking/talking about the future and she's considering moving to Argentina for a while to live with her relatives. There is a TEFL program there, so I might go with her so that I can have free room and board! Just a thought!
Back to Thailand...
After going to the internet cafe (last time I posted) Lilia and I went and got some food, then drove back to our hotel and napped before meeting up with Becky and Stephanie. It took us SEVERAL taxis before anyone would even agree to drive us to their hostel, and the guy had to stop three times to ask for directions.... it was very annoying as we were so late. We had planned on hitting the night life up, but we ended up sitting in the cool lobby at Steph and Becky's hostel. The best part was swinging on the porch swing the hostel had!
We made plans to meet up with the girl the next day on Khao San Road - the big tourist road. In the morning Lilia and I tried and failed to go to the Cambodian Embassy for visas - we forgot it was Saturday! So we went to Hard Rock Cafe instead. OH MY GOSH!!!! I forgot how amazing nachos were! This is a dangerous place! I got a tee-shirt, which has become my beach outfit! We ALSO stopped and got a Boston Creme DONUT from Dunkin' Donuts... it was amazing. We met up with the girls and shopped - it was a great time!
The next day Lilia and I took a bus down to Pattaya. It was so not worth it. The Lonely Planet said it had a great night life, but everyone was older.... AND everything was very very expensive. It was a waste of money! The beach was nice, but not as nice as the one we are at now. The good thing was the french restaurant we found... mmmm it was amazing. So far - the food has been unreal. I'm so excited to have so much variety!
We left Pattaya the next day, and after a crazy couple of bus rides, riding in the back of a pick-up truck for well over an hour, a ferry ride, another crazy taxi ride, and a short walk on foot - we made it to the Apple Bungalows on Koh Chang. This place is amazingly beautiful, and I don't ever want to leave! We live right on the beach - which is white sand - and it's just...breathtaking. We had to leave Apple Bungalows today - so for the next few days we will be sleeping on the floor of a bamboo hut! An adventure? Yes indeed.
I am a little sunburnt, but I'll survive. Tomorrow Lilia and I are going to learn how to drive motor bikes so that we have some practice before renting them in Cambodia! We might go explore the waterfalls on the island! Anyhow, I'm sure we'll check mail once more before going to Cambodia, so I'll try to update then!
Many happy thoughts from the land of smiles!
