Amazing Day!!!
We're not all that enchanted with our bamboo huts...they have bed bugs, but other than that...the ambiance is good. Plus, you just can't beat walking outside your door and being on the beach. That's amazing!
Today I was thinking I ought to stay out of the water for as long as possible as I got fairly burnt yesterday... So we all agreed that we would stay out of the water until the sun was lower, and then go into the water together. SOOOO today I learned how to drive a manual motorbike!! This is something I was fairly certain that I would never say, but I just said it! A friend that we met in Shanghai, Tor, is in Thailand now so we're all hanging out together again! Small world, isn't it? He's been spending his time in Vietnam lately, and he learned how to ride a motor bike there, and really wanted to explore the island today. Lilia and I have been told that it's just cheaper to rent a bike for yourself in Cambodia, so we decided to learn here while we would have a teacher who speaks English! I must admit that it was a little rough in the beginning - I couldn't shift gears to save my soul! BUT! After only a few minor mishaps, we were really rather good! It wasn't nearly as difficult as we originally thought it might be. It was really hot, so it felt good to have the wind in out face! Actually, the wind was a downfall for me, as I didn't have any sunglasses....so Tor let me borrow his huge aviator glasses! I have a really funny picture of me on the bike with my super awesome helmet and aviator glasses on!
After riding around the island for about two hours, we got back in time to go for a sunset swim. The water was a little cool, and it felt awesome! Steph, Tor and I all swam until way past when we should have, but the water felt GREAT, especially on my sunburn! I can't believe how dark my skin is, but if you put it against any other skin, it still looks pale as can be! Isn't that just the way. On the other hand, I'm one big freckle...so there are PARTS of me that are darker than everyone else... in theory.
Tonight we're back at the internet place from last night, mainly because we want to book two day trips - one elephant trekking, and one snorkeling at four different islands! I'm going to wear a tee-shirt and maybe even shorts since I'm already burnt, but it should be a lot of fun! This beach bum life is just great!
