There are lots of ways to show a character is really smart. Having the lawyer they're talking to be impressed that they read some unidentified novel* in grade school isn't a convincing one

When chased by a car, why does everybody in TV/Movies run down the center of the road? Why has nobody ever thought of the wondrous survival technique of "get off that nice flat surface that was designed for cars to drive on?"
Not an original thought, but I seem to keep running into this situation this week and it's bugging the hell out of me.
It looks beautiful. The plot is predictable, but the characters are fleshed out enough to carry it, IMHO. And it teaches the valuable lesson: ( Spoiler! )
Just got back from seeing The Road. I found it to be an interesting study of the depths that humanity can sink to, given the right circumstances. Of course the odds that you'll survive to see what appears to be a nuclear winter are low enough that you probably shouldn't worry,
