Drought

NC (and much of the Eastern US, I'm told) is suffering from a drought. As a practical implication of this, my water bill, which is normally about $5, was like $25 this past month. in vietnam (and elsewhere), we'd fill a large paint bucket full of water, then use a large ladle (think small sauce pot) to wet ourselves, then soap separately, then use the water to rinse. you use a lot less water.

(this was on a daily basis, and if we wanted hot water, we'd have to boil some and mix it in the bucket.)

oh, and this isn't done while standing. it's inefficient and cold. you crouch to bathe.

It's sad how extreme that sounds to my American sensibilities. Thanks for opening my eyes a little bit more to how great I have it here. :-/

I did the same thing when I was in Nicaragua. Still, after a hard day of working in the fields under the hot sun, they were of the best (and most needed) showers of my life.
