I don't even know where to start. Our camera was stolen, so no pictures...yet. I'll put some up when my new friends return shortly. Between the streets of Havana and the sandy shores of Varadero... a lot of shit went down.
Highlights:
- HAVANA. Havana Havana Havana. This is the most beautiful city I've ever seen in my life...need more time there. Had a lobster "Golliath" that was absolutely enormous, hence the name. Laughed as a man tried to sell Stevie his two sisters. Made friends with a little dog with a broken leg who I tried to put in my purse to take with me, HAHA! Then I met Edwardo from Spain... Got into a pretty long, heavy discussion about the Revolution and tourism in Cuba which was nice considering the rest of my trip was spent talking about "WHO GOT SPRAYED?" (Inside joke on our resort but I'm sure y'all can catch on...) Only got to hang with him for a few hours which was definately one of the highlights of my trip... *sigh* I suppose this is the way of the travelling soul... We watched a crazy latin band at Casa de la Musica which had about 20 members in it! Never heard music like that in my life, never danced like that in my life. Salsariffic baby! Made another friend from Peru originally, who now lives in LA, who really showed me the ropes of Salsa dancing! Ay mami!
-DANCE DANCE DANCE! I've NEVER danced like I danced in this country in my entire life!! Moi Caliente! Sweat, POURING out of me, rockin' the biggest afro y'all have ever seen on this kid... not a care in the world. *Sigh* I think my dancing days are finally back after a long rest. I must have shed almost another 10 pounds from all that dancing, it was completely out control.. All day, all night. On the beach, barefoot in the streets. Drumming on everything in sight, a little band followed Stevie and I around for the entire week, and didn't leave until the MINUTE I set foot on that plane. Funny...
-BucaneroOoOoOoooOO! THE BEST BEER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD!! The shit's got a PIRATE on it and everything! I ended every night with the Bucanero...and it got me into some interesting situations...in the ocean...in the pool...on the streets! It even took Stevie down one night man, poor guy. I lost him in Havana at Casa de la Musica, and managed to find him ass-up in a bush outside..hehe. Almost took me down the night we drank them at a 24 hour bar in downtown Varadero with a bunch of crazy cubans and a bloke until 7am... the night I was dancing in the streets barefoot and bargaining cigar prices with my new hombres. Shit's potent, but I love it.
-DOWNTOWN VARADERO. A very touristy area but you just need to delve in a little deeper to see the real deal. Walking through the streets, young boys playing baseball and soccer in their bare feet, next to rows upon rows of weathered, pastel coloured homes, with all their laundry floating in the wind. Just like those Corona commercials, we sat at some bar on the beach in the middle of town, without a sole in sight, sipping Bucanero's. A dog runs up and joins us. Took some nice shots with my SLR, can't wait to get those developed, scanned and put on here.
-THA BEACH! Ay yai yai, the most GORGEOUS beach I've ever laid eyes on! (Lotsa jellies though, had to be cautious.) There was a really bad storm close by so we had a lot of overcaast days with HIGH winds. Tried frolicking in the sea on my first night, but I gave up on that after being knocked over every 2 seconds...and the water was only to my knees! Beautiful white sand, nice breeze. Played a pretty intense Beach Volleyball tourney with a bunch of gino's! Great way to get to know people, TEAMWORK!! I missed a lot becuase it was so bright I couldn't see anything and MAN is it hard to play in the sand! I was diving all over the place! So fun!
-MIS AMIGOS! Met some AWESOME people here man, love it. The first night we met 5 crazy girls from Toronto, who were pretty damn cool for girls... cause I don't usually like girls. After talking for about 40 minutes, after a bunch of drinks, we were frolicking on the windy beach, followed by the pool where we were brought (free with opotional tip) bottle service at 3am! Met some gino's from Montreal (WORSE than the ones in TORONTO) who joined us in their tighty whiteys (Stevie was thrilled). Some of them were nice but most of them sucked. One had a stupid faux-hawk and I kept arguing with him I remember...about what, I don't. Those guys were our friends for the night, and then all week they avoided us like the plague...sat alone everywhere they went...weird. Stayed with the girls all week which was awesome when Stevie disappeared on me, which he did often, because I had people to hang out with. Then on the Tuesday of our trip, I'm sitting at the lobby bar and I see one of those Gino's talking to a girl that looked familliar so I called him over and asked her name, low and behold, she's my old friend from highschool, Penny! (I know, another Penny!) She was there with another friend of mine, Irene, along with 2 other girls. They're the ones we went to Havana with, and were our buddies all week. Quite the Loca Chica's man... Ay! So fun. On our last night I went out with the girls we met at the beginning and Stevie decided to stay home. Went to a club called La Rumba, which was closest to our hotel. IN-SANE dance party! Met a bunch of really funny guys from Toronto as well at the club, who were also staying at our resort, ended up dancing with one (a really good dancer) named Anthony who's a grade 8 teacher here. It was funny hearing him talk about his kids in class and everything, he found a big ass conch shell and said he's going to use it to get their attention in class like lord of the flies..haha. I thought it was pretty funny. Anyway, we all went back to our hotel that night, and jumped in the pool, which was freezing, so we took the party to the (not-so) hot tub by my room. BIG ass hot tub! There were a lot of us in there. Such a funny night. Everyone drunk, bickering with eachother. Hilarious. The next day we all sat by the pool laughing and laughing all day. SUCH GREAT FRIENDS! :( It sucks those guys didn't come sooner because they TOTALLY would made the week even better... (if that's even possible!) We all exchanged numbers and emails and I'm already talking to a bunch of them on MSN. The guys come home friday so I'll probably get in contact with them after. I literally, SPLIT MY SIDE laughing this week. Laughed so hard I pulled all these muscles in my side..haha.
Anyway, I'm sure none of you are even reading by now, heheheh. That's my trip.. theres so much more but I'm still trying to reflect.. so much happened.
GO TO HAVANA! ALL OF YOU!
Love you all lets get together soon please!
Pictures soon.
