A few weeks later, Clark smiled over his morning coffee at the sound of Lex's laughter. He lowered his copy of the Smallville Ledger to the sight of of Lex bringing his own paper into their kitchen. "And what has you so amused this morning?" Clark asked.

Lex grinned as he folded the copy of the Daily Planet to display the article he'd been reading. He dropped it on the table. He rubbed his hands with glee before he accepted a cup of coffee from Clark and leaned against the counter. "Kyle said he had other ways of keeping Lionel in line, but I never expected him to call in the Feds for a complete audit of all of LuthorCorp's military contracts. And I thought bringing Lucas into the business was a deliciously evil idea."

"Kyle tends to be thorough when he's protecting Smallville's citizens. Chloe must be beside herself with glee this morning over her exclusive." Clark referred to the fact that the Planet article about LuthorCorp was written under Chloe's byline. Kyle had even managed to get Chloe on the staff of the Daily Planet.

"She's tickled pink. I know that she wanted the job, but I miss her at the club. Hell, I just miss having her around."

"Chloe needed to reclaim her own life. But don't worry, you still have a very capable staff and Chloe isn't about to give up your friendship just because she's working in Metropolis again. The city's not that far away."

"Did she have to take my best dock worker with her?" Justin had followed Chloe back to Metropolis.

"You still have Ian 1 and Ian 2." Clark snatched a quick kiss after getting up to retrieve the coffee pot from the kitchen counter. He resisted patting Lex's hand. Lex's pajama bottoms hung low on his hips offering Clark a tantalizing view. "More?" Clark offered Lex coffee with a smouldering glance that suggested more than a refilled cup.

Lex shook his head and leered back at Clark. "Only if you are seriously offering more than coffee. Why did we have to get out of bed so early? Do you have some special plans for today?" He raised a hopeful eyebrow.

Clark had his own regrets about leaving their bed. "I have to check in with the AI at the fortress. It's being rather insistent about discussing 'my future.'" He sighed.

Lex frowned. Clark had introduced Lex to the AI when it became evident that their attraction wasn't just a fling and they'd moved in together. The AI was almost as bad as Lionel when it came to its opinion of Clark's role on Earth, but Clark seemed to have much better control of it than Lex could ever hope to have of Lionel. "What could the AI possibly want?"

"I don't want to alarm you, but the AI has started to discuss 'progeny' to carry on the El family line now that I've taken a suitable mate." Clark took Lex's cup and placed in on the counter beside his own, then enfolded Lex in his arms.

"Progeny?" Lex laughed then pulled back in alarm when he noted Clark's smirk. "Oh, no. Smallville's weird enough without a pregnant male alien."

"Who said anything about me getting pregnant?"
