Chapter 4:

“Okay, your blood pressure is still within acceptable range.” Tamamori said and muttered ‘thanks’ to the nurse that helped him earlier. Mitsuhara just nodded.

“Aren’t you tired of being cuffed to the bed all the time?”

“I’m an assassin. If they don’t do that, I might kill the Chief.”

“Oh, but you don’t seemed like one.”

Mitsuhara scoffed at his remark.

“I don’t know whether to feel flattered or insulted.”

“How did you…I mean why did you become an assassin?”

“Okay, doctor. So I’m being questioned here now? Or you’re actually a detective but pretending to be a doctor to get close to me? Sorry to say that but you wouldn’t be able to get anything out from my mouth. Over my dead body.”

“I was just…”

Mitsuhara interrupted him. “Enough already. You’ve stayed in my room from yesterday night till now. Give me some privacy, will ya? The door is that way.”

Tamamori gave up and left. He thought he could make her open up a little. She’s his patient after all. It is important that he knows even a little about her life.

A week has passed since Tamamori came here. Mitsuhara still refused to receive treatment and the questioning session is hard to be continued as she gets headaches frequently.

“Mitsuhara-san, if you refuse to get treatment your headache will get worse.” Tamamori said while checking up on her in the room.

“Just leave me alone…” She said and groaned.

“The painkiller is not working?”

“No…but I can withstand it. This pain is nothing compared to the bullet wounds.”

“Mitsuhara-san…”

“I don’t know why but…it feels…nice to have someone caring about me?”

“Of course it feels nice.” Tamamori said. “Doesn’t your family treat you like that?” he added.

“I don’t have a family.” Mitsuhara said and played with her fingers.

“What do you mean you don’t have? I saw it in your profile…”

“I was adopted by a yakuza boss. He told me that he found me at his doorsteps.”

“So you repay him by doing thing he wants you to do?”

“He didn’t order me to. I made my own decisions. Don’t you dare talk about him like that. He’s better than my parents who abandoned me.”

“Maybe they have their reason for abandoning you just like you have reasons for becoming an assassin.”

Tamamori’s phone rang.

“Moshi moshi.”

“Fujiwara desu. Can you come over to the Chief’s room now?”

“Okay.” He said and hung up the phone. “Try looking at things from a different perspective. No parents would want to abandon their own child without reasons.” Tamamori said before leaving the room.

Knock! Knock!

“Come in.” the Chief said. “Tamamori sensei, have a seat.” He said again when Tamamori entered the room.

“Yes. Thank you.” Tamamori said and sat down.

“How’s Mitsuhara Yukari now?”

“Her pain killers are not working. I’ll probably have to administer a stronger one.”

“We can’t go on like this any longer.”

“We have no choice. She doesn’t want to receive any treatment and I don’t know how big her tumour is right now.”

“Are you saying that she needs to go for a scan?”

“Yes, we have no choice.”

“What’s next after that?”

“Depending on where the tumour is growing we might be able to remove it.”

“I have told you already that we have no interest of curing her.”

“We don’t have a choice if the tumour is located at a high risk place. It might even affect her memory and make the questioning even harder.”

“I’ll think about.” Chief Tanaka said after keeping quiet.
