Chapter 3:
The room is small but comfortable. It is equipped with all the basic necessities such as table and chairs. The bed is located next to the window. It offered the view of a garden with flowers blooming. It’s going to be spring soon. Tamamori thought.
Tamamori unpacked his things and arranged them in the wardrobe. There’s a door in his room that opens up to a bathroom. He left the toiletries on the counter above the sink. He walked around his room and settled on his bed. Unconsciously, he fell asleep.
“Dr. Tamamori, Dr. Tamamori.” Someone called out.
“Ugh…huh?” Tamamori mumbled as he rubbed his eyes. He looked out to the window and saw the dark sky,
“Yabbe. How long have I been asleep?” He asked himself.
“Dr. Tamamori, it’s time for dinner.” A man outside his door said.
“Okay, thank you. I’ll be out in a moment.”
He put on his white robe and the ID. He paused in front of the mirror on the door of the wardrobe. He fixed his hair and checked his breathe. Feeling satisfied, he opened the door and let himself out.
“Yo!” Fujiwara greeted him. A young man with spectacles stood beside him. “Ah…this is Sasaki Wataru. He works for the lab.” Fujiwara said.
“Hajimemashite.” Sasaki said.
“Hajimemashite. Tamamori Yuta desu.”
Fujiwara smiled and lead the both of them to the cafeteria.
“Ah…I’m hungry.” Fujiwara moaned.
“You seemed to be different from this afternoon.” Tamamori said. Fujiwara laughed.
“That’s my twin.”
“Really?”
“Yea.”
“Don’t listen to him. He seems to have bipolar disorder. Double personality. Serious during work and playful after work.” Sasaki joked.
“That’s right. Nobody wants me if I’m serious all the time, right?” Fujiwara said as he pushed open the cafeteria door. The noisy chatter of people and the sound of spoon and forks hitting against the plate could be heard.
They lined up and bought their food. After that, they headed towards an empty table and sat down.
“Ah…Ken-chan’s on TV.” Sasaki exclaimed.
“Ken-chan..? Tamamori said and looked at the television. “You know him?”
“He’s my friend since middle school.” Sasaki explained.
“Kazama Kento is currently filming for a new drama in Osaka…” Tamamori heard the newscaster said.
“Ah…I feel so full now.” Fujiwara said.
“I need to get back to the lab now. See you.” Sasaki said and walked off.
“I think I should be checking on the patient now.” Tamamori said.
“Not you too?” Fujiwara said in disappointment. “Fine, go ahead.”
“I’m Dr. Tamamori Yuta. I’m here to check on the patient’s condition.” Tamamori said as he showed his ID to one of the guards stationed outside the patient’s room.
The guard nodded and opened the door for Tamamori to enter.
“Again another doctor? Give it up. I don’t want to be treated.” The patient said.
Tamamori sighed and saw the untouched food on the tray.
“Mitsuhara-san, please at least take a few bite.”
She ignored him.
Tamamori adjusted the drips and looked at the chart that records her pulse. The column for the blood pressure is empty. He looked at her and took a pity on her. Her left hand is cuffed to the hospital bed and she has only a thin blanket to cover herself.
“Aren’t you cold?” He asked her. She ignored him again.
“If you want it this way, fine. Then I won’t leave this room until you eat and have your blood pressure checked.”
“Have fun.” She said sarcastically and closed her eyes. Tamamori sat down on a couch at the corner of the room.
Two hours later, Tamamori was still in the room. He went to her bedside and sighed. It seemed like she’s asleep. Then, he walked out of the room.
Mitsuhara peeped and opened her eyes after she saw no one in the room.
“Pfft…liar. What was I even expecting…” she said to herself. She quickly closed her eyes again when she heard someone talking outside the door. It seemed like the Tamamori and the guards were arguing about something. Finally, ten minutes later, he entered the room, bringing a book and a blanket together.
Tamamori used the blanket to cover Mitsuhara as he saw her shivering earlier. He sat down after that and read his book.
“Stop peeping. I know you’re awake.” Tamamori said.
“What’s the commotion about just now?” Mitsuhara asked as she sat up.
“Oh…so now you’re talking?” Tamamori said and looked up from his book. Mitsuhara looked away. “If I’ve known this, I would’ve done it earlier instead of sitting here for two hours.” He said again.
“Nobody asked you to do that.”
“Yea…Yea…I’m just being too nice and brought a blanket in for someone doesn’t appreciate it although it wasn’t allowed.” Tamamori said. “So will you eat now?” He asked her and smiled.
