Naomi was reading the new books that she had borrowed from the library on Wednesday when her father called.
"Dad!" Naomi said, more anxiously than she would have when her father appeared on the screen.
"Morning Naomi," her father nodded in response, "how have you been doing this week?"
"Not bad," Naomi replied, "extra curriculars have started so it keeps me busy,"
"What extra curriculars are you signed up for?"
"Flight club on Monday, Fencing club on Tuesday, Damn the Man! club on Wednesday, Self Defense on Thursday and Gun Club on Saturday,"
"They sound like interesting activities,"
"I enjoyed what I've had so far," Naomi replied, "I have Gun Club tomorrow,"
"How have classes been this week?"
"They went okay, I still love them," even if they are a bit weird, Naomi thought thinking back to her Literature in Action class on Tuesday.
"That's good,"
"Dad have you heard anything about mum?"
"According to the last check in from today she's still due to arrive home tomorrow," her father told her, "the team should be back by tomorrow evening at the latest,"
Naomi visibly breathed a sigh of relief and hoped that, that would be the case.
"Your mother said she would contact you on Sunday if she gets back on Saturday,"
Naomi nodded.
"I'm afraid this call has to be a bit short Naomi," her father said, "but it was nice talking to you and I'll try to contact you once in a while,"
"That's great dad," Naomi smiled, "I'll talk to you then,"
"Bye Naomi,"
"Bye," the screen reverted back to its standard starfleet screensaver.
Naomi picked up her book again, hoping that she wasn't building up her excitement for nothing. But her mother was coming home, hopefully, and she had every reason to be excited about it.
