Let’s start with Alexandra's knee, shall we?
Last Tuesday I had the car and was on my way to it when Peting called and said we needed to look up a Doctor because Alexandra refused to walk on her leg. Saying her knee hurt…
I was on my way home so as soon as we came home and called to set up an appointment, and got one like 30 mins later… At 5pm. We got there and the Doctor said it’s either an inflammation or a infection, but the most likely thing is it’s growing pains. But to be safe, he sent us to do an x-ray.
So off we went. Alexandra did great, for her age, and around 6:15pm we were done. And was set to the ER to wait, since one of those Docs were the ones that were going to look at the x-ray images…
Now, I love the healthcare we have here. It’s great. But during the summer the trouble is that there’s not enough staff, so the usually quite long waiting time at the ER ends up being ridiculous…
We didn’t get the meet a doctor until 8:30 pm. Now, none of had had dinner at that point, only lunch somewhere around 11-12 midday. I found some smoothies for Alexandra at the ER in one of those machines, but that was all.
I was hungry, but Peting and Alexandra, who both need food every 4-5 hours to be remotely human was… not doing so good.
So we ordered pizza on our way home, picked it, and pretty much stuffed our faces. All three of us.
Next day I get up, get ready to go to work, and Peting comes out of the bedroom after Alexandra has woken him and he looks like a wreck… And begs me to stay home so he can sleep.
Now, for you that don’t know it, first off when Peting feels the least bit ill or bad, he is a very manly MAN. That is, the world has ended and he can only lay down because that is what you do when you’re sick, never mind kid, home or anything else.
I, however, had work to do. Things go complicated. In sweden you can stay home with your kid if she’s sick. And get 80% of your pay until she’s well. Unfortunately, this does not apply for sick men.
But my workmate came up to a great solution when I’d called her and explained the situation, so the bureaucracy was solved at least!
I, however, was stuck at home. With a man that stayed in bed all day and a kid that didn’t want to go outside since she couldn’t use her leg.
So I took care of my orchids and did laundry all day. One way to do it, I suppose. :-) Peting felt good in the afternoon and has stayed that way.
Alexandra had to go back to the doctor again, and well… Sometimes she said her knee hurt and sometimes it didn’t hurt. 5 year olds… what can you do? :-P They had to sit and wait for another afternoon at the ER after that to talk to a Doc, but that time they’d brought my iPad and snacks and books with them, so they were way more prepared then.
FUN TIMES! And the second time they had to go in to the ER to talk to a Doctor was… on Thursday. CLOSE CALL!!! Because Friday we’d long planned to go to mom’s, because she and my brother was responsible for setting up mine and Alexandra’s birthday party!
I turned 40 this year and Alexandra 5. And well… Every five years, my extended family and relatives wants to come visit and congratulate and all that.
All my extended family… I have a HUGE HUGE extended family. I think I sent off 40 or 50 invitations for the party. One was for my best friend Ylletyg, but the rest was for relatives one way or another and their kids and significant others…
A lot of people, in other words. A lot of people that I know and love dearly! The party was a huge success!
My cousin had made a quiz walk with questions about me, with the help of Peting and my best friend Ylletyg. So there was a few questions I didn’t remember the answer to myself! X-D Notably when I’d started doing folklore dancing (7 years old, apparently) and what my first crush was called (Michael, we finally figured out) and what date me and Peting got engaged (1 of April 2009… his idea), just a lot of questions about me and my life! Which was kinda cool!
To my surprise the one that had the most correct answers was… my mother in law!!!! Totally impressed!
The rest of the evening was spent eating and drinking, talking and laughing. And just hanging out. It was AMAZING! And no drama, which usually happens on these huge birthday parties. *lol*
The best part though is that Peting’s relatives who are few and a bit more reserved than my boisterous, loud and somewhat crazy relatives… They to had a really good time! :-D
Alexandra ran around with her cousins, of course. Not limping so badly, so we figured her medication did it’s job. That and the excitement of a big birthday party with her cousins present, of course. ;-)
Sunday afternoon we came home, and a mysterious package had ended up on our living room table…. X-D Me and Peting had put it there without Alexandra noticing as we left home Friday, so it had been there since then. Alexandra was TOTALLY excited, because it was huge to!
Inside was one of the things she’d had on the top of her wish list: A stable for her Schleich horses. I’d ordered one online, the same brand, so it would fit her horses. She has quite a few now, high quality toy horses. So it was about time she got the stable to, I suppose. :-) She played with it for quite some time that night, and was so excited, it was a joy to see! She LOVES horses, she really does!
The week following I’ve just been working every day, and it’s been… dull. Mondays I’ve spent in my library, the school library, weeding books and reorginazing the books. I’ve thrown away SO AMNY BOOKS!!! So many old books that I’ve missed. :-P I mean, even facts books need to be changed out with regularity. *heavy sigh* I’m almost done now though, so things will be good next week. :-)
Peting and Alexandra has been home alone though. Peting had 7 weeks of vacation this year (!), so he and Alexandra had their last week just the two of them.
And then… Then on Saturday we made another of Alexandras dreams come true. She’s wanted to start riding school since she was… 3-4 years old and first understood what it was, thanks to her cousin Tilda. She’s nagged us since. And this Saturday? She had her first lesson! :-D
I’d bought her riding boots, mom had bought her riding pants and a sweater with a little image of a cartoon horse on it. It’s all pink. Even her riding shoes! X-D Which was pure luck, to be honest. But she’s extatic about it!
Alexandra is a very shy kid around those she doesn’t know, so I fully expected her to cling to me or Peting the entire time we were at the riding school… But no! She let go of me quite quick and went with the teacher and the teens that helped during the lesson. She did GREAT!!! So good! And did her best to follow the lesson. We just stood on a distance and talked to another teacher that informed us parents on how this particular riding school worked. (Really good, if you ask me.) It was a real success! And when we left we bought her a riding helmet as well, so she won’t have to borrow that at the riding school either. She’s now fully excpied!
I think this will do her a world of good! Not only physiclly, what with balance and strength, but also mentally with her shyness! So I’m totally excited for my kid. :-D And fully expect myself to sit on the sidelines every Saturday morning from now on with my tea and my phone. *LOL*
As always, I’m quite active on Instagram, so there you can see photos from both party and the first riding lesson and all that. :-D
