How great is it when you invite people over for dinner, and they bring their own booze, carry all your tomato plants up to the loft after potting them for you, cook dinner, empty and refill the dishwasher and leave the kitchen cleaner than when they turned up!

We should do this more often :)

Against all odds, 2/6 sunflowers have poked their heads up over the soil - even though I've left them out in the frost for a couple of weeks.

Today was a decent spring day after a cold rainy week. Tiny k. helped me plant another tray of tomatoes - 2/3 harbingers, 1/3 gardner's delight.

Moving the seedlings up to the loft was a stroke of genius - good temperature, plenty of light. Only downside is that of course I don't see them, the stairs are a nightmare, and I have to carry water from the basement - so I may have neglected to water them for four days ( Read more... )

I planted 4 kinds of tomatoes in trays (half a tray of each kind) about a week ago, 2 seeds in each 5x5 cm block. Put them on germination in front of the downstairs fire, and kept them moist.

I used Nature's Own tomato compost from Organic Gardening, and paper trays, since I'm too lazy to make my own blocks. The idea is that you cut the individual ( Read more... )
