Well THIS sucks.

I WOULD be getting home tomorrow but nooooo the winter storm of the century has to hit TODAY in Dallas, turning it into Siberia and stranding my mom and I in Biloxi at Beau Rivage until at LEAST Thursday if not Friday. WONDERFUL. It's 15* with a wind chill of 0* in Arlington right now and I'm stuck down here rather than at home with my cushy warm bed, fuzzy PJs and my Keurig. >: (

Today's drive from Orlando to Bioxi was hell for the last 300 miles or so. It was windy all day, but it got REAL fun in that last 300 miles when I was driving. Lucky me!

My mom's car is a Lexus LS 460. For anyone who has ever seen one of those things, it's built like a tank and weighs over 5,000 pounds. This is relevant because we were getting blown around all day on I-75 and then especially on I-10 in the panhandle. At one point this afternoon a wind gust hit us so hard and strong that it almost blew us into the car next to us at 77mph (like within a few inches of a side-swipe). I yanked the car out of it, we started swerving, my mom thought we were going to end up in the ditch, but somehow I kept it on the road and regained control. I am a defensive driving She-rah.

Once we got into Mobile we drove into what has to be the worst thunderstorm I have EVER driven through. I hadn't seen it rain that hard since a tropical storm moved through while I was at Ringling. It was bad enough that everyone on the road was driving around 40mph with their hazard lights on just so they could be seen by other drivers. I got to drive the last 40 or so miles into Biloxi with my nose 3 inches from the top of the steering wheel, white-knuckled.

Then the stupid valet guy at Beau Rivage tried to open my door to get me out and have us get our stuff when only the HOOD was under the drive through cover and it was still pouring rain. I was glad the door was still locked. He motioned for me to get out of the car and I shook my head with a NO WAY IN HELL. Go park some of the dozen cars that are just SITING there, man. That's kind of your job. Then you'd have more room for incoming guests to park without getting drenched, including you! Imagine that! :D Needless to say I didn't get out of the car until we were under the cover. I wasn't about to get soaked just because the valet was impatient. I don't think that's an unreasonable decision.

So... yeah. What was originally supposed to be our normal overnight stay is going to be at least two, maybe three nights now. I brought in Copernicus with me so I could get on the net and work on a commission I still haven't finished while we rent a movie in the room or something. I also had the foresight to bring the games we had bought to store in our Owner's Locker in WDW so we'd have something to do. Now at least we have Yahtzee, Skip-bo, Uno, and a deck of normal playing cards with us. We'll take them back out to WDW with us next year to leave in the Locker.

This is going to be a long couple days.

weather, beau rivage, traveling, wtf, rant
