Our house is 24 years old; we've lived here since I was just shy of 2. Our original door bell broke several years ago so we got one of those remote doorbells that sends a signal to a speaker in an object (a mantle clock in our case) which then chimes. We don't know if someone else around us has something using a similar radio wave or what, but it has chimed on its own a couple times with nobody pressing the button outside. We can see shadows through the front door curtains if someone is standing at the door, so it wasn't a ding-dong-dash.
Last night the doorbell rang at 6:20 in the morning. The front door/entry way/table with the mantle clock are right on the other side of the paper thin wall from my headboard. I'm always hearing crap outside as it is, and I've always had a fear of the house being broken into which adds to my skiddishness at night and tendency to be a light sleeper. The doorbell randomly ringing in the pitch black of the early morning made me hit the ceiling. Michelle had come over that early before a few years ago when she had problems with her husband, but that was before we used cell phones for everything. I knew if it was her she would have called ONE of us, and my cell always sits on a charging valet next to my bed at night. I would have heard it ring.
Thoroughly freaked out, I turned on all the outside lights and tried to go back to sleep without much success. Today my dad said he turned off the doorbell and was going to buy a new unit tomorrow. It never rang on my parents' side of the house, just mine.
If the doorbell goes off AGAIN in the wee hours of the morning now that it's disabled, there's only one explanation left in my book:
Angeline got a day pass just to come and fuck with me. Siblings can be such a pain in the ass.
(This isn't mentioning the two times since she passed that I have heard a female voice say "Kristin!" in my ear in the middle of the night while I was in bed. >_>)
