At the moment, I am reading through and correcting students' translations of The Tortoise and the Hare. One really interesting thing that I am noticing is that the students keep assigning their own gender to the tortoise. That is, if it's a boy, he calls tortoise a "he" and hare a "she." In contrast, the girls say tortoise is a girl while hare is a boy. It's hilarious!

Dang. I tried to translate that into Japanese and couldn't even come close. *sigh*
