Day 13 - Favorite pairing
I have a lot of favored pairings. Generally, as long as something is written/drawn well, I love it. Now, as far as OTPs go, my first was Starscream/Skyfire. Then there's Hound/Mirage. Bumblebee/humancompanion.
Favorite pairing though. That should be fairly obvious.
Art used entirely without permission. I believe I literally stole that Starscream with a camera while Juu was sleeping and left the sketchbook unattended.
It's not that I think they're a good couple. They're really not. They're the antithesis of each other; complete and total opposites. Any respect between the two of them would be grudging, and that's not really the basis for a healthy relationship.
However, I like it a hell of a lot better than Megatron/Starscream. So I suppose it boils down to what flavor of probably-unhealthy-and-completely-dysfunctional I prefer. Which is the one without physical abuse, thank you.
How did I ever come to like these two dickbags together? Well one day I was browsing something... seek_the_rain I think... and then I saw a bunch of Optimus/Starscream fanart (mostly by shiome) and liked it enough to wonder "What's that about?"
Then I read Hate The Dark. Fuuuuuck I was doomed. From that day onward, I have checked out every single Optimus/Starscream pairing related thing. From Abyssal's The World Translated Thus to that one... thing where G1 Optimus and Starscream get sent into Shattered Glass universe and Starscream winds up pregnant and everyone cries a lot.
There's an unfortunate plethora of really bad fic for this pairing, and I will blame that on the standard tropes of Starscream-centric fanfic. Namely, that a lot of authors want to write him sympathetically, and to achieve this, they woobify him. Suddenly, Optimus Prime is the noble knight swooping in to save the damsel-in-distress Starscream, who is so busy a bloo bloo blooing because Megatron beats him every night.
As opposed to, you know, that time when the Autobots were driving off at the end of an episode and this conversation happened:
"Hey Prime, what do you think is gonna happen to ol' Starscream?"
"Nothing pleasant, I imagine."

Optimus Prime is kind of a dick.
Starscream is most certainly a dick.
It's a perfect pair of dicks. ;3;
