Sound Tracks: Music Without Borders is a show on public broadcasting I caught this afternoon. The whole program was great - but in particular, I liked the segment called Oh, Kazakhstan.
In a nutshell: Kazakhstan got ticked off about the way the movie Borat misrepresented Kazakh culture (the bits in "Kazakhstan" were actually filmed in Romania). A Kazakh violinist, described as the "Itzhak Perlman of Kazakhstan" by the show, Marat Bisengaliev, made an effort to allow the Cohen brothers to extend an olive branch in the form of a new symphony, commissioned by Bisengaliev for the benefit of the country.
