Sound Tracks: Music Without Borders is a show on public broadcasting I caught this afternoon. The whole program was great - but in particular, I liked the segment called Oh, Kazakhstan.

In a nutshell: Kazakhstan got ticked off about the way the movie Borat misrepresented Kazakh culture (the bits in "Kazakhstan" were actually filmed in Romania ( Read more... )

That's beautiful! Erran Baron Cohen's a pretty damned good composer. He integrated the dombra very well, sensitively, better than any Soviet-era composer ever combined local tradition with Western orchestra.

I saw something in an internet surf that said there'd be a studio recording of the work at some point. I like this live performance, but I'd be interested in having a better sound quality recording.
