This is one of those books that I had to read in school and hated. HATED. We all hated it, which just made everyone hate it even more, and caught in this spiral of hate I never read anything by Dürrenmatt ever again. But then someone on
books1001 reviewed it, and really liked it. And also, it's really short, so I decided to give it another go. And it was really quite good! Some meetings between people were too obviously forced to get them to talk about philosophical things, but apart from that, it was quite brilliant. The character were gripping, and there was a real plot and mystery present. I didn't even see the solution coming, which, to be honest, is a bit shameful.
I tried to think of other books I had to read for school and hated, but none matched the feeling "Der Richter und sein Henker" evoked, otherwise, it could have been a theme.
