Yes, this is a very good book, enjoyable, lovely scenery, great characters, bit obvious plot, but let's get down to the important point. Howl is David Bowie. Visually, I mean. I might look for the exact quotes that make me believe this, but you'll have to make do with my memory at first. He goes through the same visual changes 8so hard not to type that as ch-ch-ch-changes) as Bowie did in the seventies. At first, he has dirty blonde hair. Then, it's almost orange, and he wears elaborate, sparkly suits. Later on, he is very gaunt and his hair white, and he wears a black suit. Case closed. But if this wasn't intentional, Diana Wynne Jones, may she rest in peace, is still pretty damn brilliant.
