After sucessfully repairing that wayward sleeve cap and re-attaching the sleeves using the backstitch method, I tried on my loverly sweater only to discover that the darned thing won't really fit over my boobs. It's almost wide enough, but I know when buttoned it would gape horribly.
I spent most of my free time this past weekend trying to create one solution after another and I finally got it right on Monday evening. My solution is to knit another little section to add to the length of the front of the sweater, about an inch wide on either side and then graft that on to the sweater fronts. I tried three different times to get this right and finally figured out the right combination of stitches that provides the most seamless effect (you know, so it looks like I DESIGNED it that way). So I have a 6 stitch & 30 row section of garter stitch at the bottom, followed by a 10 stitch & 134 row section of the slip stitch border pattern. Because the slip stitch ribbing pulls in a little, the extra 4 stitches are needed to keep it even with the garter stitch sections.
At least it will be done with plenty of time to spare so I can wear it to the Oakland Knit & Crochet Show.
Photoshop is finally loaded on to our new computer so I should be able to get new photos up soon.
