Grandma Barbuto’s Pie Crust
Ingredients:
1 cup Crisco
½ cup boiling water
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
Directions:
1) Combine Crisco and water. Beat with fork until creamy. Set aside.
2) Combine all dry ingredients, reserving enough flour to roll the dough.
3) Sift dry ingredients into the Crisco mixture.
4) Cover with saran wrap for 15 minutes.
5) Shape into pie crust (*if dough is stick, add more flour sparingly as needed)
*Sticky dough is more likely on damp/rainy days.
Notes from Grandma: “I put my pies in a 400 degree pre-heated oven, then reduce heat to 350 degrees until the pie is golden.”
