Chocolate spoons

Mr. G and I had a hilarious time making chocolate spoons (I got the idea from a recipe post over at The Daily Tiffin.) and here is a modified version of the recipe.

You will need:

2 dozen tea spoons
Make certain they are different from household silverware as The Kid will clain a spoon for personal use. Trust me.
2 large bags chocolate chips
You will end up with extra I know. The extra is for The Kid.
Canola oil
Double boiler
Fillings (we used mint candy; but nuts and other goodies work just as well.)
   Again, have extra on hand.
Cookie tray lined with parchment paper
Cellophane paper
Ribbons

Instructions

Bring water to a boil in double boiler. Turn down to medium heat. Add chocolate to pan and start drizzling in canola oil. I think I added about a half cup to 2 large bags of chips. You want a perfectly smooth and glossy ganache.

Tip bowl periodically so The Kid can see what's happening. Explain multiple times that you can't hold him, tip the bowl and stir chocolate at same time.

Once melted, turn down the heat to low - you want to chocolate to remain melted but not to burn. Dip each spoon in the chocolate and lay on parchment paper.

Engage in five mniute heated debate and finally persuade The Kid that the spoons are for presents not immediate consumption. Compromise and allow The Kid to eat a candy for every one he puts on a spoon. Ignore chocolate mess on countertop.

Once candy fillings have been placed on spoons, take another spoon and dollop on more melted chocolate so fillings are encased. Place in freezer to chill.

Ignore chocolate mess on countertop. Ignore chocolate daubing The Kid. Engage in another five minute debate about why The Kid can't have a chocolate spoon now. Promise faithfully to save a spoon for him and give him some of the warm chocolate so he realizes why he shouldn't eat a heaping spoonful and burn his mouth.

After about an hour, remove trays from freezer and wrap spoons in pretty cellophane or similar paper and tie off with ribbon.

Untangle The Kid from ribbon and remove festive garlands he placed on himself.

Place wrapped spoons back in freezer.

Give in to the inevitable and share remaining chocolate with The Kid. Ignore chocolate daubing you both and enjoy!

[You will appreciate that most of the time I first wrote "warped" for "wrapped" - maybe my subconscious is trying to tell me something!]  And here is the result:

food, humor, family
