One Of Those Fannish Collisions

I got confused and thought I was at Memory Alpha, but then I realized it was a different Eridani.

How do I know I'm over-thinking canon while writing fic? Well, I've noticed the excessive number of random "Commanders" in various Trek books, fic, episodes. I've come to the conclusions that a) writers don't bother researching the equivalencies between ranks in various military branches and b) are conflating "Commander" with "commander". So yeah, I do get that hilarious nervous tic whenever I heard Sela referred to as a "commander" when I know she's probably actually a colonel. (I figure on nepotism combined with a high attrition rate in the tal shiar). But the same term is used for both, in romulan, hence....

But then we fall back onto telling Vulcan/Romulan cat-jokes. This is where we pretend various characters would behave just like cats. For instance, Cat!Tasha would wait in a hallway with a baseball bat, and when Cat!General Vole steps out, hit him repeatedly, then chase him down the hallway, until they both trip over Sela (and keep going until they slide into a wall). Does she leave tape sticky side up on the floor so he'll step on it? Does she put rubber bands on his head? Does she put spaghetti in his hair? And does he spin around until it flies off and eat it? Does she sometimes tie a red sand pail to his leg to watch him run away from the chasing object? Have I ruined these characters for you completely?

Edit: Oh, and we watched the second episode of House. The writers have got to be working up to the episode where he comes out. I mean, in actual words that will offend some percentage of the viewing audience.
