"Basking in the warm glow of electric sex in the window."

HAHAHAAA! Here comes the proof I so often talk about. How parts of A Christmas Story (the movie about Ralphie wanting a Daisy Red Rider BB Gun) were shot in my neighbourhood, basically right in my backyard:

The purple car there is mine & Ray's and to the very right that's the side of our house, not the white house, the kinda yellowy-cream coloured siding and the fence to our backyard. But more importantly...look down the street there and you'll see a big building. That would be the school.

And now...let's take a look at the movie, right before the famous 'tongue on the flagpole scene':

And today it looks like this (minus the flagpole that was taken down after the movie):

And when poor Flick was stuck to the flagpole and all the kids went to the window...on the right of this kid here, you can see the street that I told you to look down in the very first picture:

Later on in the movie, when the bullies are...well, bullying (incidentally, the main bully...my brother's friend Shane, that's Shane's uncle!)...on either side, take a look at the houses:

And now take a look at the houses, you can piece them together, but the main house on the left has changed dramatically, but the rest still remain basically the same. And again you can see the street in the background:

Finally, in the middle of the movie, there's a nice shot of the front of the school...with an American Flag (movie takes place in Indiana, filmed in Cleveland...I think, and here)...that flagpole is white and is still there:

And now, you'll see everything boarded up as in the last pictures. The white flagpole is still there as well:

The school used to be Victoria Elementary, and if you still have some really good eyesight, you can see it carved into the stone above the front door. But because of the Conservative Provincial Government more than a decade ago, they closed a bunch of schools, and Victoria was one of them. Now it's been sold twice, the first time to Women's Place, and was supposed to be developed into apartments, now it's changed hands again when the development didn't go through, but now I don't know who's purchased it. I really really hope they don't tear it down though, it would be a shame. But at least now I have the photos to show that St. Catharines was a part of Movie History, apart from a movie based on a book by Howard Engel.

The only thing we had close to this before was The Ref (with Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey) being filmed in Niagara-on-the-Lake...about 10-15 minutes away.

So anyway, hope you enjoyed this. I proposed a trip to the St. Catharines Museum so Ray and I could take a picture of the actual Daisy Red Rider BB Gun used in the movie. It's free to go so we shall see what's happening with that.
