on Thanksgiving and black friday

Well, I sincerely hope everyone had a lovely holiday. Aside from my uncle being in the hospital, it was a relatively small, calm, and nice affair. I liked it very much.

My uncle is in the hospital because he got some splinters in his hand. He is diabetic and had a bad infection. Originally, he wanted my mother to stick it with an alcohol-covered needle and drain the puss. That won't do when you're diabetic, or at any age, really.

He had surgery on it today. He came out fine. He'll be in the hospital for a few days. There are no stitches, because the wound still needs to drain and that'll take about a week or two to heal properly.

I continued a more or less running tradition of mine. I tend to go to the movies on the holidays (especially Thanksgiving and Christmas). I saw Fantastic Mr. Fox last night. It was very good, near excellent, to borrow adjectives from UCSC's narrative evaluations. Very good = B+ near Excellent = A-. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't necessarily say Wes Anderson is "back" so much as, I believe, he found his niche. He makes quirky films about father-son relationships that meld the modern and the post-modern.

I would generally say I enjoy Wes Anderson. My favourite film of his still is Royal Tenenbaums. I think he really hit his stride there. I think he tapped into some of that same magic with Fantastic Mr. Fox. The colours were, as always, a pivotal point and very beautiful.

I didn't really go to black Friday. I say really because I went with a friend, but between the vodka and the still being sick, I didn't feel up to staying awake the entire time, so I was a bad friend and went and slept in the car. Good thing, too, because I can barely stay up over 24 consecutive hours and I'd have been up for about 30 hours if I had awake the entire time. I struggle to stay awake more than 16 hours sometimes, you know. I simply require a lot of rest. Something about being depressive, fat, lazy, slovenly, etc. :D

Finally, I'm on google wave. Anyone want an invite?
