Well, it's okay if she's pretty

So we've had this before but this morning was the first time it's been a "problem".

We do--from time to time--have cross-dressing students, most of them are from Thailand and there's always the question of whether they're cross-dressers or transgenders. Not that it makes much of a difference in my book. I believe we've also had one from Japan.

Anyway, for the most part, we--the office--don't know or particularly care about the gender identification of students. I have had a few phone calls where concerned friends/family/student themselves call to ask whether or not we will refuse them enrollment based on their sexual/gender orientation. We don't. I have heard the Crow tell someone to be more "low key" about being gay and I had to roll my eyes at her and remind her that it's none of our damn business, personal or professional. If I feel that it's necessary I will remind a student that they are here to study Chinese--not to put on a fashion show or change conservative fews on traditional sexuality or gender roles.

So back to this morning.

A girl comes in and her complaint is that there is a cross-dresser who uses the women's bathroom and that we should do something about that. Obviously. So we discuss and eventually come to the fact that the real basis of her complaint is that he's an ugly cross-dresser, because I asked her if she could still tell he was a he, but he made a pretty girl would she still have a problem with it? No. Hm.
