So I took a class called "Pixels, Patterns, and Prints" last semester and for my final, I made a kinky cheater quilt with basically every
kink_bingo kink on it (plus some others). It was the stupidest idea I've ever had, and I'm still actually not quite done with the physical quilt but I figured I could show you my digital proof and some pictures of the physical quilt in progress.
make it larger! (2000px by 2000px, 4.05MB) |
supersize it! (6300px by 6300px, 19.7MB)
I don't recommend looking at the largesize unless you're really curious, because it looks SUPERAWESOME but it is also REALLY GIANT and also, uh. Not actually full size? The actual fullsize (300dpi) is 12600px by 21600px, but at that point it actually becomes ridiculous so. Basically if you want to view the individual patterns, go look at the
pattern post. If you want a sense of the quilt itself, go view the
medium size proof.
List of kinks on the quilt that don't come from the patterns: pictures (the whole quilt is essentially that), phonesex/epistolary (phone appliqué), writing on the body (arm appliqué), bloodplay (top-left skin appliqué), tattoos (bottom-left skin appliqué), orgies and decadence (the whole quilt is an excercise in decadance and there's enough people fucking that it's probably an orgy), sensation play (it's a quilt, and a really comfortable one at that), mirrors (there is an actual mirror sewn onto the physical quilt,
picture), in public (I displayed the thing in public, it's often lying around the house, my dad calls it "that pornographic quilt of yours"), and humiliation in public (because there's humiliation on the quilt and the quilt is in public).
Quick rundown of the quilt:
- This quilt is called "Your Kink is Not My Kink, But Your Kink is Probably Still on This Quilt." That's YKINMKBYKIPSOTQ. I usually just call it "fuck you."
- The quilt itself is 42" by 42". That's roughly the size of a baby quilt or lap quilt.
- There are 81 squares (the giant middle square is 9 regular-sized squares) that are all 4" by 4" on a 9 by 9 grid. The border is 3" all the way around.
- Most of the quilt "fabrics" are green or blue to make the fake appliqué shapes stand out more.
- There are eight squares on the quilt that are whole squares: Watching Youtube from the Closet, Girl, look at that body!, This is why safewords are important., I want those Sandbox Days., Raw Eggplant, QR Code, You are Tasy and Great., and I will show the world what's inside my Heart.
- The physical quilt is backed with this striped rayon I got for free from a thrift store, originally white and now a lovely shade I call "vagina pink." It's super smooth, and here is a picture of it.
- The physical quilt-top is printed on Spoonflower's Kona Cotton. I highly recommend it if you want a lightweight and vibrant fabric.
Some pictures of the physical quilt:
Just out of the package from Spoonflower! You can see the extra fabric under the quilt top that's being used for binding here too.
And, like I said, here's the tentacle on the quilt. I'm not entirely sure why the pattern that's supposed to be there didn't print, but I'm not horribly bothered by it.
As you can see here, I'm still not done. It mostly because I live in Southern California over the summer, it's like 80 degrees outside, and sewing a quilt is not my favorite pasttime. Also it's sewn by hand. Because I am exactly that crazy (and machine stitching it was a nightmare.)
This is what the back looks like. You can kind of tell that I got lazy about the way the stitching looked on the back at some point. The stitching on the front is mostly super-neat and tidy, because it was drilled into me and I am bad at cheating.
Center detail. For some reason none of my cameras can pick up the other orange in the center square very well. You can see hints of it here, kind of? Eventually, I might stitch around the figure in the middle, but right now I'm kind of lazy and it's too fiddly. Bonus: look how badly the quilt needs an ironing! That's what having to keep shoving it in bags to work on the go does to a quilt.
Close up of what "
The Only Boy I'd Anything" looks like on the quilt. I am very fond of it.
Close up of what "
Girl, look at that body!" looks like on the quilt. The orange is a lot more vibrant than this picture, the flash kind of washed it out.
