Something we've been doing this summer is volunteering at a historical center. What we do there is "interpret" the past. The girls and I go once a week. We dress as we would have at the beginning of World War I, and we do farm chores and demonstrate them to visitors. Some of our favorite chores include picking raspberries (which one calls "blueberries" and the other chooses to call "strawberries"), gathering eggs, and feeding chickens. We're also good at fetching water, using a wringer washer, playing with kittens, chasing the peacocks, and ringing the lunch bell.
These pictures are of such fabulous quality because I took them with my Motorola Tracfone. Sometimes I think I need a fancy phone just so I can take pictures of my children.
Tossing feed to chickens, so they scramble after it. It's not how they are fed, but it is fun. Note the raspberry spots on the dress.
One day we set up the croquet toys and had a little game.
Well, I don't actually know any of the rules except take turns and try hitting the ball through the hoops.
We like to end our half-day of volunteering with at least one train ride.
