So I was out for a bike ride yesterday, and what's the first wildlife I come across other than a lot of Tiger Swallowtails and other butterflies? A blue mud-dauber wasp, exactly like the one
Matt and Ian recently dealt with. No black widows around, but it was in the process of dragging off some other variety of large spider.
The main roads in the construction site are all graded and guttered now, but I discovered they've started bulldozing the secondary roads in the residential section, which are currently a maze of twisty forest passages, all alike. That neighborhood is gonna have a ridiculous number of cull-de-sacs, if the current paths are any indication.
Also, I am thoroughly convinced of how bad our drought is, having waltzed a hundred yards *into* the local swamp, walking mostly along the creek-bed. That's pretty unusual. If I can find time it'd be interesting to go explore more before it rains again, since I'm sure you can get to tons of places that are normally inaccessible without hard-core wading gear.
My phone is full of pictures from several months - I need to get them off and do a picture post.
