Season 3 of Maverick

Mar 25, 2015 09:03

I wasn't planning on buying this because it was quite a bit more expensive than the previous 2 seasons but the more I watched I realized this season has quite a few episodes I really loved. Although I don't think it is quite as strong as season 2 and has a few more duds, it does have quite a few classic episodes. Of course it is the last full ( Read more... )

I'm glad you're happy with your purchase! I wish I could get season 4 and have the Beau episodes, but I just can't justify such a horrific price. The Beau episodes definitely aren't very strong, especially when they kept recycling plot elements, but I loved Beau himself.

I don't think I've seen any of the ones you're highlighting, unless I maybe saw The Sheriff of Duck and Shoot. Maverick and Juliet I was curious about, but didn't get to see. A Fellow's Brother sounds like one I probably wouldn't like. I'm not sure I was even aware it existed; the title is completely unfamiliar to me and I wonder if Cozi didn't even show it for some reason. Hmm.

I remember I once tried recording episodes of a show I loved to listen to while driving in the car. I only managed one episode of it and gave up, LOL. It recorded all of our laughing about it and so the recording was very hectic. But yeah, listening to great dialogue is fun even without the picture.

At the moment I am not going to get S4 or 5 because there are just not that many episodes I really care about for those seasons, and if there is an episode I want I can still buy it digitally on I-tunes. I would have waited for S3 for the price to drop or for my birthday in June, but I was afraid the discs would no longer be pressed by then (the initial run is pressed but then they are switching to DVD-R ( ... )

Oh really? I thought all the discs for 3, 4, and 5 were DVR to begin with unless purchased from Warner Brothers' Shop.

Well, that's good that he knew Bart wasn't even in the town. The ending does sound pretty jerky, though, unless he was only walking away to tease Bart and would have come back after the episode's end.

Awesome. I have no problem with them conning criminals; I only don't care much for them conning each other.

Sweet. I wish Cozi would go back to airing the show more often. It will take them forever to get anywhere with only two airings a week.

I did buy it from the WB shop because I heard they are all DVRs on Amazon.

Where are they at Cozi? Of course there is a flip side to watching them so fast then you have nothing left to look forward to and unfortunately the fandom isn't the most engaging. I want to stay in this fandom for some time but it's hard when there isn't much activity.

Ahh. How are their shipping prices?

They started over, so they're probably still in season 1. I have 1 and 2 on DVD, so I don't need to watch right now.

That's unfortunately true about the fandom. Definitely a quiet place. It's picking up a little bit lately; more people are writing for it than there were several months ago, but still small. There's a Yahoo Group that's kind of active sometimes. I kind of got exasperated with them, however, because somehow me expressing Beau love translated to them into a good time to discuss Bart. I had to wonder if they'd even forgotten Beau exists and thought I meant Bart. I'd be fine discussing Bart with them if I'd actually mentioned him, but I'd wanted to talk about Beau.

The whole thing with shipping came to $47.00 so not cheap. I think shipping is about $5.00 plus there is tax. The 4th season which I am guess you would be most interested in bc of Beau base price is $47.00 whereas season 3 was $38.00 so that would be even more money.

Sorry they ignored you about Beau :(

I like Beau, but I don't think I've seen enough of him to really grasp his character, so far I've watched his 3 episodes with Bart. When they come on Encore I plan to watch more. I've liked Roger Moore before Maverick though.

But I might have to find that Yahoo group. It is a bit gratifying to me that Bart has fans. I know they exist because I've seen comments on IMDB but in many ways Jack Kelly's contribution to the show is ignored or downgraded and I feel that is very unfair. He was on the show all 5 seasons, granted the last 2 seasons were not that great but that has more to do with the scripts than anything he did (although I don't think he made the right choice to stay on the show but hindsight is 20/20).

Blech. Warner Brothers is so greedy.

Thanks. It was frustrating.

Beau is a mysterious one. We definitely don't learn as much about him as we do the other two. I've had fun fleshing him out in fics.

Bart has quite a few fans, yes. :) They're really coming out of the woodwork on FF.net too. Indeed, Jack Kelly made a large contribution to the show. Perhaps some people downgrade what he did because of his character not being quite as defined in personality as the other two? Not his fault there, either, but maybe some people find it easier to ignore him because of that.

Yeah, the scripts were definitely the problem in later seasons. Roger said he would have stayed on had the scripts been of the same quality as the first two seasons'.

I've noticed that too but most of the stories don't appeal to me personally. They are good stories just not my impression of Bart. There was one I started to read about Bart drinking as a teen that I enjoyed but the author stopped updating. And what I really want is more Bret/Bart stories (I still need to read your stories yet so I am not referring to yours.)

I do find his personality very well defined but then I've seen the most of his episodes ( ... )

Yeah, I likewise don't always care for them because they don't match my impression of Bret (when he gets included at all). But then each person probably sees the characters a little bit differently, and now I have to fit A Fellow's Brother into my equation when I had no idea about it before. Deana's Bret & Bart story is probably my favorite of everything that's currently up ( ... )

I actually want to write a story because nothing out there satisfies me. It is just hard for me to get motivated and I have no good solid idea. But if I did it would definitely a brother fic with equal parts for Bret and Bart ( ... )

Then I definitely hope you can do that. :) I did that when I was unhappy with everything in the Perry Mason fandom, and I seem to have started a movement, as now there are lots of gen writers and fans of Hamilton Burger popping up, instead of the entire category just being Perry/Della romance fics, as it was for years and years ( ... )

Jack Kelly had a drinking problem which I feel hindered his career to some degree.

I've been watching Rockford Files too. Writing wise it is not on the same level for me as Maverick but Garner is great in it. I watched an ep with Lauren Bacall which was very enjoyable and now I am recording an episode with Joseph Cotten.

I agree about the Bacall one. I enjoyed it because of the chemistry btw Garner and Bacall but the actual mystery was bad. It made no sense either, why hire him if you were the killer.

I'll let you know what I think about the Joseph Cotten one and will look into those others you mentioned.

Also want to say that rant was not in anyway directed at you. I can get a bit passionate at times about things I see that bother me. :)
