Ikoku no Meiro Croisee~My Favorite of 2011 so far

I just finished the final episode of Ikoku no Meiro Croisee. I feel a sense of both happiness and sadness.

Sandess because this beautiful series will not be in my life anymore (unless they give us a second season which they better). And happy because well how can you can not feel happy after watching such a beautiful heart warming series? The last episode made me cry tears of happiness. And I always say I think it is easy to for a series to make you cry out of sadness but crying out of happiness is something entirely different and for me way more special.

When I first started watching Croisee I was a little turned off by Yune's bishoujo designs. I expected the series to be cute but nothing special. Around episode 3 though that started to change and I realized this show was a lot better than I expected. I have no idea exactly when I fell this in love with it. (I am so happy the series is licensed...the DVDS WILL be mine)

The relationship between the two characters Yune (a 13 year old Japanese girl) & Claude (a 17 year old French man) is really lovely. I admit I ship them (something I also never would have expected at first) but ultimately their relationship is one of friendship. If there is romance it's something that would only happen later and maybe not at all. Seeing how their friendship develops is just really special to me. There is a real humanistic quality to Croisee in the way Yune and Claude come from different cultures but are still able to connect. And I think that is what makes the series so special

Yune & Claude: The Two Protagonists and My Two Favorites

There is more to the series too such as the inclusion of two characters from the upper class who could have just become stereotypes but there is a lot more to their characters than meets the eye at first.

On another note the soundtrack/OST is to die for. It's one of the most beautiful ones I've heard in anime in awhile.

If you are a US resident all the episodes are freely available on the The Anime Network. You just have to register. If you don't live in the US I am pretty sure the episodes are easy to find by other means.

Also here is a really good blog review of the series. I don't agree with everything in the review (since I really like Alice, she is probably my 3rd favorite character) but I definitely agree with the sentiment of the review. Ikoku no Meiro Croisee is a really a special series that more people need to see.

And now I am off to read some of the manga ♥
