Arakawa, Neil Gaiman, & Film Blogs

1) Remember that post I made about Fullmetal Alchemist being nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize? Well it won. Or I should say Arakawa won. It didn't win the grand prize but I think if I am not mistaken it won either the

Creative Award for the creator with innovative or epoch-making expression and fresh talent or the Special Award - for the person or group who contributed to extend the culture of manga. I am confused which one but either way..woohoo (no other manga deserves it more, at least in my book)

2) So some nasty republican in Minnesota (Matt Dean) insulted Neil Gaiman today Neil Gaiman "who I hate," was a "pencil-necked little weasel who stole $45,000 from the state of Minnesota.".

I am sorry who in their right mind would insult Neil Gaiman? He is probably one of the sweetest, down to Earth "celebrities" out there despite his talent & major fan support (I mean watching him talk about his upcoming Doctor Who episode was the cutest thing ever).

Not to mention he made it very clear that he costs a lot for a speaking event but he was told the library had the money. The library was using a special fund designed to bring authors/public speakers into suburban libraries. They had to spend the money anyway or they would have lost it. So how is this Neil's fault?

And then Neil Gaiman pretty much gave the money he earned at this event away to charity.

What an immature moron. This is who people elect to office?

3) So one of my favorite blogs was Martin Scorsese's The Scorsese Selection. This was a monthly column where Scorsese talked about films that were upcoming on TV (usually TCM). It was really informative and interesting especially since Scorsese besides being a great director is one of my favorite film historians.

Yesterday I checked and the blog is completely gone with no trace. I asked around but no one has answered me (I can't believe I was the only one following a column by Scorsese). :(

In the meantime I did discover Bogdanovich (another great film historian) also has a film blog which is really cool, especially since you can comment. But I want Scorsese's blog back as well!

edit: Rest in Peace Jackie Cooper!
